Currently I am using my onboard audio. Its connected via coax to my HTiB SONY HT DDW 5500, which has a dedicated amp.

Now my question is, if i get a Asus Xonar, will it improve the audio quality?

Connectivity will be either optical or coax.

Plz lemme know asap as I am going to Nehru place today

Not sure if you would notice any difference while connecting via digital since that would be bypassing the onboard circuitry right ? There are some exotic digital interfaces but I guess not worth it for now

In your case it would not matter. You need far more resolving equipment to tell the difference between coaxial digital outputs.

No. I think this query was answered a gazillion times already.
I did do my research but the only prob is that some ppl say that when ur playing a MP3 file it does matter. It doesnt matter when ur source file is DTS etc.

^And perhaps a negligible one at that? With the onboard audio and mp3, I am not sure if you could distinguish between the audio quality. Do a blind test and find out.

Using a digital connection you are only using ur PC for transport. You are basically using the DAC of your receiver and not your PC's sound card. So sound card wouldn't make a difference unless your connection is PC -> RCA -> Receiver. In that case, if it is for music only or for stereo needs, go for any external DAC(no or less electrical sounds and noise) or if you insist on a internal sound card the Xonar ST/STX is really good and virtually noise free. Also look at Auzentech's 5.1 and 7.1 surround cards if you insist on a HT setup and not stereo sound.

Hope that helps. :)
