The XFX 8600GT Fatal1ty @ Rs 5250/- was not available and the dealer said that the XFX people were out of town so I bought the mercury 8600GT (256MB, GDDR3) instead for just Rs. 2550/-. The price diff. was anyway just too great to rsist.

When I updated the default drivers (6.14.11.6371) to the latest (6.14.11.7516), the framerates in Virtua Tennis 3 increased from 50fps to 75 fps while in Company Of Heroes, it increased from 36 to 46 fps (avg.). They were no change in fps in C&C: Generals and in C&C: Tiberium Wars. In C&C:Generals, I am getting 30-31 fps in the opening sequence (main screen) and 20-21 during the intro video of the USA campaign. Interestingly, I got the same fps when I reduced the graphics settings from ultra high to high. In C&C:Tiberium Wars, I got ard. 27-31 fps during the first GDI mission but sometimes for a couple of seconds, it goes below 10 fps.

I am running WinXP Pro SP2 on a Anthlon 64 3000+, Asus A8N-VM, 1GB DDR 400 (512x2), 300GB HDD (WD3000JD), Powersafe 500W (18A on +12V). The games were run at Full/Ultra High graphics settings at 800x600.

Btw, when was the 8600GT launched in India?

wowsa!! what a price for the 8600gt man!!

congrats.. you just got yourself a SUPERB deal.. trust me.. the double price of the XFX is just not worth it.

OMG Mercury 8600GT at 2.55k?? :O

Awsum I'd say; Best VFM deal;

Might beat the price to performance ratio offeredby the 4850s as well; :P

The Mercury 8600GT cost Rs 4800/- in another shop and I did not have any expectations when I went to this shop since they had quoted a price of 5200/- earlier. I saw their graphics card pricelist and pointed out to them that Rs 5200 was quoted next only to the XFX Fatal1ty card and the mercury 8600gt wasn't mentioned anywhere in their pricelist but the woman assistant was adamant :@ and said that both mercury & xfx cost the same. Then the manager came over & after calling up the Mercury distributer, said that it cost Rs 2550/- :clap: . At first, I couldn't believe what he said and he had to repeat it. :)
According to the price list, XFX/Mercury 8500GT (1GB, DDR2) cost Rs 4900/-. Who would buy these cards when Mercury & XFX 8600 GT (256 MB, GDDR3) cost just 2.5k & 5k respectively? :S
