Speakers needed for laptop ~5k

Hi all, I am in search of some good speakers which i'll play using my laptop and mobile...The range is around 4-5k
I've come across some 5.1 setups in this range which had output of around 70-75W RMS...
Also, Logitech and Altec Lancing 2.1 THX certified speakers were also there having output of 200W RMS in the range of 8.5k..:huh:

So, i'm confused a lot about this discrepancy, 2.1 giving far more output than 5.1 and the higher price..
I already have my loyal creative 2.1 with me which i've been using since 5 years and they have lasted through all my college parties :D
Should I really try to extend my budget to get those 2.1?
Also, please suggest some good 5.1 speakers in 4-5k range..

What will be your primary usage? For music get 2.1 Movies 5.1

By the way which sound card you have in your laptop? Bad sound card + good speakers = Bad sound quality

It would be better to invest in a sound card+ speakers if you don't have a good sound card. Trust me sound card makes a world of difference.

Look for speakers which have higher SNR value rather than RMS.
 
Well , I'm done with my crappy logitech and I've got a budget of 2.5K .. sorry for hijacking the thread..
But If I was you ; I'd look at the Edifier C3 ... hard to beat !! epic sounds and good amiplification..

Am going to buy the X600 for my hostel room 2moro!! It's for a measly sum of 1.9K :) EPIC WIN!!

BTW, SNR on the edifier speakers >=85 DBIs.. on the C3 its 95 I think ..

Check out the R 1900-2/3 or even the R1600T ( thats 5K , and 3.5K) epic monitoring speakers... lovely sound :) U'll like them , I know it for sure !!

Steer clear of creative / AL / any of these 'big' brands.. cause brand value is all that's big about them..

Edifier is epic abroad .. and they've just gon big guns in Delhi , partnering with almost every big retailer out there.. goto Vipin at NP or even C2C .. mention my name : Gaurav .. and have a look at their prices..

A cheap , stylish alternative the the X600 I'm getting is the M3200 For a bout 1.95K from VIpIn ,, again.. They're amazing, sleek , but the crystality of the highs suffer a bit due to the design .. otherwise an exceptional kit.. the set is for 2800+ tax off Lynx for comparison's sake!!

what is the price of them at your friend Nitin's place?

In my laptop, the soundcard is IDT HD Audio with SRS Premium Sound (its by default). So is that sufficient?

Also, my primary usage would be music, though some gaming and movies also... Which speaker system would you recommend?
 
People please help, i'm not able to decide which speaker system to go with..

I've heard that MX 5021 were the best for music, sound quality..

But as they have been discontinued, is there any other good quality VFM speaker system which is available in the market..?
 
Hi pals, quickly need a suggestion..

I am getting altec lancing MX 5021 second hand for around 4k...Is it a good deal?

Or should I look for a new Edifier C3 or some other speaker??
