Speakers to please family

finally going the audioengine way. If stereo does not appeal to my folks may consider the z5500/HTIB again (That way my desk will be happy to have the lil black ones around).:P

@Greenie how'd you rate the poor lil Audigy Value that they sell for some 1500 bucks? My budget is around 3K for the card.
 
yup, it should be better than any realtek onboard , and as good as the audigy 2ZS , and better than the previous cards. Just remember to keep all the Eq/DSP etc turned off, and use ssrc@ 96/24 and kernel streaming when listening to music :)
 
nope, unless someone decides to sell a Xonar DX. the low end X fi's dont sound substantially better with all DSP and SRC bypassed

Settling for the Audigy Value, any idea whats the cheapest rate going for the card? And where in Pune can i procure one? Will KMD be any cheaper?
 
called Compuage (Creative Distri for india), pune office today. The told me to go for a Sound Blaster "Active":rofl: puzzled i asked him recheck and give me exact model.

Then he tells me to forget the card as there is a "LATEST" :P audigy value for 2.4K :@ .

Finally i ask him that @ebay and other places we can get the same "LATEST" Audigy Value for ~1.5 and he has the temerity to tell me that its not a creative model at all!!!
 
no not the 2.4card. The ones selling on ebay as audigys aint no "Creative" audigy according to this "know it all" compuage guy.
 
some sense starting to prevail. Taled to the Cyberstar guy this time, he quoted 1600 for the Audigy Value. Does someone know if its worth for that cost above my current onboard (@Greenie another realtec).
 
The audigy 2/2ZS/soundblaster live 24bit/2 value all sound the same with their DSP turned off. Only the 4pro sounds a bit better due to better DAC's ( but a lot more costlier, and the same are used in the Xonar DX methinks) and I dont know about the X Fi's. if you can get a soundblaster live 24 bit for cheaper, then thats okay as well :)

PS: what speakers will you be hooking them to? the HTS or your stereo setup on the way?

As of now the audioengines, AshishSahas has allowed to audition his z-5500 so that'll determine whether i'll blow that much moolah so quickly on the 5.1 or just get another pair of A2s and be happy with a quadraphonic setup. Will that have any impact of soundcard selection?
 
Ok then lemme check it out. AE2s are coming tomorrow, and i have entire weekend to burn them in, and get the sound card up and running.
