I'm currently using MTNL 2 mbps. Speeds are awesome and voice chats are clear. But the bills are crazy cause it isn't an unlimited plan.

Was wondering if I could downgrade to an Airtel 512kbps 5Gb daytime + night U/L plan and still enjoy same voice clarity?

Skype uses only about 5-6KBps so if your bandwidth is anything more than that, you should be okay.

Rather then checking Speed i would suggest to checkout software you are using, use Gtalk or Skype.

I'm using yahoo messenger to make international calls and Magicjack to speak to ppl in the US.

I'm only downgrading to a 512 unltd plan coz its cheaper and with 5 gb daytime download limit. With my MTNL plan I'm allowed only 1.25 GB after which it is charged. I got bills of 1800 bucks just for exceeding my 1.25 GB limit most of which must have been utilised with my voice calls.

i have used skype on a 64kbps airtel connection without any problem.

Very surprising. I used to have lag issues with an MTNL 256 kbps. That when i upgraded to 2 mbps.

I have been using Gtalk voice chat with a 156kbps connection for a long time..no probs at all.
