P.S. The i7500 will not recieve any official Eclair support from Samsung because they chose not to and not because the i7500 lacks the hardware necessary to run Eclair.

the thing is somewhere related to primary partition for android or something which is insufficient on some 1st gen android..(that is what i meant by hardware insufficiency) and thus the abandonment on upgrade from manufacturer.
the getway 3rd party methods will exist but none officially.

I think the 2.1 is worth it

does AMOLED make such a big difference over TFT in quality or barely noticeable during practical use

I wud say specs of i7500 over spica is totally worth it. When i bought the phone there
was no 2.1 for spica either. Seems like officially there wont be a 2.1 update for i7500 whereas for spica already available Officially (not sure for which regions). I got galaxy for 13.5 when the spica was reatailing for 12.8k

Feature wise difference in spica(i5700) and galaxy(i7500) are

AMOLED vs TFT
180mb vs 8gb internal memory .....though you get 2gb msd card with spica.
3.15mp without flash vs 5mp camera with LED flash
3G HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps vs 3G HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps
800mhz vs 528mhz processor.

Rite now we are having only 1.6.3 Galaxo mod for i7500 with some goodies
