Split aircon suggestion needed

I plan on buying two A/Cs for my flat, one for the hall and one for my bedroom.

I decided on split a/c's as the general consensus is they are more efficient, break down less often and give better service. Obviously, I don't want to book up my lovely bay windows with a window a/c too, which swayed me.

The question is: do star ratings (BEE or otherwise) really mean anything? Has anyone tested the star rating thingy and found them to be accurate? Or is this BS? Are they worth the premium over 3 and 4 star models?

I've zeroed in on LG, mainly because of their service reach. Samsung is also in the running but since I was looking at only 5 star models, Samsung's Vivace Plus models are slightly costlier (Rs 5000 or so more than LG).

Currently I'm looking at one 1.0 ton and one 1.5 ton. The models I've come down to are these:

LG Air Conditioners- Room AC, Window AC, Mini Multi Split & Floor Standing ACs | LG Electronics India

LG Air Conditioners- Room AC, Window AC, Mini Multi Split & Floor Standing ACs | LG Electronics India

Can someone tell me if I'm on the right track? How's LG's service in Mumbai?

Another thing, besides BEE ratings what other specs should I look at?

if your looking for quality id say skip lg's (its plain luck with lg sometimes you end up with a good cooling machine and sometimes they suck).. apparently im guessing their quality control is not up to the mark. If you want low prices and flashy stuff lg's the way to go.

Anyways other than tat in the lower price range id advice you to get a voltas eer rated splits.. they are good value for money and being wel rated should keep the power bills low aswel.

I recently purchased LSA5ZG5NTY1 like last month. I think its one the most VFM model you can get with great features and 5 star rating. Of course these rating would help you save money on a long run, provided you use A/c often and not on occasions !

The only drawback I have experienced so far is its remote sensor. Due to its design, I can use the remote only from one particular angle and it gets really inconvenient. If the font pannel is removed, the remote can be used even from an odd angle but with cover on,if wont work like even from a meter even if its slightly disoriented.

Made several calls to LG service and i must say they are prompt to reply and send a technician. But whats the use if they cant help! Also, not all technician are smart enough so you really gotta be careful. Also, it seems that thece techs take private work, thus cancelling official appointments and causing great inconvenicene to us. I have faced this isuse several time and that they keep delaying appointments since they get that extra income on private contracts (i am only speculating this...)

Subsequently, got to know from one of the techs that the company keeps changing design every 2-3 months and they now have a new design. They have promised to replace the a/c with the newer model, but not sure how soon would that be.

Bottomlone: check the remote of this model from all angles to ensure that you are buying a newer designed model to avoid any inconvenience.

vandal : for ACs stay away from anything that spells LG / SAMSUNG

my suggestions :

VFM brands : Onida / Voltas / Electrolux

Midrange : Carrier

Topline : O-General / Hitachi / Daikin.

there was nice sheet made up earlier on forums search for it.

and yes the start ratings do matter, at the simillar specifications go for the higher star ratings, that will save electricity.

Hitachi doesnt deserve to be in the topline for sure. Follow-me is just a marketing gimmick. If they are innovative give some advanced tech on compressors. They have EER of 10.6 even VFM onida can manage that. Carrier estrella 11.48 in 1.5 tonner and even onida has that in 1.0 tonne to save some power bills

if your looking for a good AC get a samsung split they have a model which is BE 5 star rated .
And no its not BS they actually test it and they are rated on the amt of watts they consume per hour of running. theres not much difference in power consumption between 4 and 5 star rated ACs but go below that the difference is big.
I did enquire and its better to get a 5 star rated AC you might save upto 3000 rs per year on running costs.reason y 5 star rated ACs are lil bit more expensive.try to get the samsung 1 tonne split AC which is 5 star rated i was about to get one but the dealer told me that stock is yet to arrive .

Conflicting suggestions. Someone says no to LG and Samsung, somebody else recommends it. Yep, Vijay I checked out the Samsung Vivace Plus range, its around 5K more than the LG, I wonder if they're worth it.

I'd vouch for medpal's suggestion. Although I haven't used Samsung/LG aircons, seem like the compressors on those do not last as much as the ones in the Carrier/O-General/Daikin/Hitachi/Mitsubishi makes.

Japanese aircons are expensive, period! But the performance is top notch and comes at a slightly higher premium. The indoor units takes up much li'l space and looks sleek and cute. :P

I've a 5 yr old Carrier (me thinks its the Estrella) at home and apart from the mandatory maintenance, it did not require change of parts. Yet.

Even Blue Star and Voltas makes some good air cons I believe.

Vandal :
Go to your dealer look at the units in person and see the build quality.

Dont go for any model below 4 star certification. If you can get within your budget a 5 star rated one then excellent.

I am using 2 Frizair window(1.5 t) / 1 Electrolux Split (1.5 t) / 2 Onida Splits (1.5t and 1.0 t). i havent encountered any problems till date.

frizair is indian company kind of a systematic assembler in a big stage. Now a days though the quality has gone down.

Voltas Vertis Gold is good series / so is Carrier Estrella / Onida has quite a few 5 star rated ACs.

O-general / Daikin are too costly and they dont recover their extra premium in 10 years as per charts here on TE.

why not try O general

Split Acs are just amazing !!

we have 2 at our home for last 4 years and cooling is fantastic
