Ok, so was thinking of picking up an SSD fro mthe US. Seems both Corsair and Mushkin have sandforce controllers and are decent drives.

Any difference between the two or is it a straight price Vs capacity comparison?

Mushkin 60: Newegg.com - Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL60GB-DX 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Corsair 80: Newegg.com - Corsair Force CSSD-F80GBP2-BRKT 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Corsair 40: Newegg.com - Corsair Force CSSD-F40GB2 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Get it from Sudhir with a local warranty - why bother Uncle Sam each time you need to get hold of something? :)

Price is on the higher side, true but when you need local warranty and customer support I guess you need to pay for the additional investment. :P

BTW there are no differences between the drives apart from the manufacturer and maybe those of the NAND chips onboard - all of them use the SF1200 controller so speeds should essentially be the same.

Aha, but the good part is that my firm has people going to and fro almost every month, so I can get it easily without trouble :)

So it makes sense to get them from the US.

EDIT: Oh, and another thing: How are these as compared to the Intel G2 80/160Gb hard drives (assuming price isnt a factor)? From Anandtech reviews, it seems the Sandforce may be better in sequential writes, but when we look at random performance, the Intel is somewhat slower in Random writes but still faster in Ramdom reads.

Would you actually need a 160GB drive? The cost per GB is pretty high as you go up! I'd say stick to 60~120GB capacities if you are getting one from the US. It should suffice you even if you decide to use one in a laptop considering the limited space available to use a single 2.5" drive.

As for the performance between the Intel X25-M G2 and those based on the SF1200 controller, there shouldn't be a huge difference to say the least. I have a Callisto 60GB based on the SF1200 controller. Even the OCZ Vertex 2 and the Corsair Force series are based on the same controller. The difference during day-to-day usage would be minimal IMO and the numbers actually show up when you bench the drives.

Interesting, but I think its still cheaper getting them from the US. hmmm... Local warranty Vs some time to delivery, thats the tradeoff. Need to think and decide.

Thanks for the tip adder. Will go check out the prices anyway.

Well you may want to wait because the nand flash prices are falling by the day in the international market although not by much NAND flash spot prices drop on pessimistic outlook, says inSpectrum.

They do look fast here [H]ard|OCP - Corsair SSD in Real World Applications
ya, but that way they are always falling and I could wait forever ;) + Intel expects to move their NAND to a smaller process by Q4, which is expected to halve prices on their SSDs. Lets see. Just realised finances this month not so good (got a new cell n an e-book reader), so may need to get this next month. Will update.

If buying from the US, go with OCZ.
The support forums is brilliant. I guess Corsair should provide similar support..
