Fired up Heart of the Swarm yesterday and got me hooked!

Gameplay hasn’t changed much from Wings of Liberty. This time the campaign focuses on the Zerg race and the super smexy Kerrigan is ours to control. There are a few changes to the gameplay though - the Terran briefing system inside Hyperion has changed to a region inside the planet and Kerrigan gets a personal advisor - Izsha who keeps giving valuable advices to her from time to time. Pause the game in the menu for a brief while and she would keep taunting Kerrigan! Btw, Kerrigan is voiced by Tricia Helfer, the same lady who voiced EDI in Mass Effect 2 and 3! In addition to the regular missions within the campaign, we get mini evolution missions to upgrade the specific abilities of the Zerg units. Kerrigan evolves over time, levels up and upgrades can be chosen - some passive and the others that need to be activated during the campaign. As such, the Zerg units are less powerful compared to the Protoss race but in a group, these units kick ass! A bunch of the cheapest Zerglings can be a very effective group to take down an army of Protoss or Terrans.

Looking forward for a good week!

After getting the replacement board from Asus, I was a bit scared if all the saves would go. There were just 5 chapters remaining. With some hope I plugged in my SSD, the system booted fine despite a change in the socket (in fact faster than the previous system!) and the game worked! It was time to complete the rest. It was Saturday midnight by then and completed a couple of chapters including an evolution mission.

But by now, Kerrigan and her swarm had become extremely powerful for the Dominions! Some of the units when grouped in large numbers, would completely obliterate the other side - the Ultralisk for instance. A dozen of them with some air support from another bunch of units is all that is required to finish off the later missions. The Ultralisk had a cool evolution - they would resurrect themselves after death for three times when exposed to some nuclear radiation. This was super cool! The last mission took half an hour on Normal difficulty and was completed with ease.

Had a very good playthrough and loved it. Now the last game remains which will decide the fate of Kerrigan and Raynor! I just hope it comes soon enough.

Sadly Activision/Blizzard does not believe in sales or discounts. Only recently WoL has started going in sale for about $20. It may be years before there is any reasonable deal on HotS. Maybe I will get the eyepatch version when I get some time off from all the backlog.

The reviews were meh for this. They said that while the production quality was awesome in a typical Blizzard manner, the game itself was mediocre. Would you agree?

Actually, I felt the title to be quite good. There weren't any changes in the gameplay (discounting the fact that we play for the other faction altogether) and it was largely similar to WoL which I enjoyed very much back then. After a long break, this was released and I enjoyed the playthrough. The storyline was okay'ish and a bit predictable but the gameplay pretty much made up for that.

IMO this one was better than WOL. The story was decent but 20 missions were really awesome especially the last three.

Played the game on the hardcore difficulty level (the one after normal, not sure what it is called, finished about a month back, so dont remember whats it called). Not a very difficult campaign as such, Karrigan upgrade and unit evolution missions along with unit upgrades makes ur units quite powerful... to me that kind spoils things (and did in WoL too) - why offer units / upgrades in Single Player that wont be part of Multi-player ! After all, that is the main reason most people get the game - for multiplayer gaming

The campaign itself also, nice story and stuff, nice visuals, great opening screen and closing screen!
