Starting a forum...help needed

Suggest me a good domain name

Hi all !

I am thinking to start a website and forum. It will be about Nook Color. But I don't know anything as I never had any experiences earlier.

-I will be writing guides for Nook, so I thought of creating a guides' website and giving link to forums from there. Is this idea any good ? or any other suggestions ?

[strike]-Which forum script to use ? I am thinking about phpBB or can you suggest any ? I want my forum interface should be clean and easy. Also I won't be putting any ads as of now [I am investing no money in it, hence I don't expect put ads and make it clumsy] [/strike] - Will use myBB

[strike]-My current hosting account has 200GB/monthly bandwidth. I think it is enough for any forum at the beginning. If I am getting good visits will upgrade it.[/strike] - Found out it is enough at beginning.

-Any tips to reduce spams in forums ?

-Can you suggest me any name ? I thought of going with mynookcolor.com, but it is already registered :'(

-at last, any do's and don't's I should know ?

You can try mynookcolour.com

Color or Colour shouldn't matter much. Just a difference between UK and US spellings.

Don't use phpBB. Go for myBB or PunBB if you are going for free forum systems. If paid then use IPB.

MyBB & PunBB has got StopSpam plugins which I think should help.

But name matters mate, it's official name is Nook Color, hence I'd like to stick with that only. If you have any more suggestions let me know :)

Any strong reason for not suggesting phpBB ? everyone suggested it to me. Just now tried myBB, seems fine.

fill the questions and it will suggest you which one you should use. I got punBB and Vanilla.
 
Your idea looks good. :D No experience running forums, so can't comment on other questions, although I've heard good things about phpBB.

The bandwidth for your plan will be more than enough for a long long time. All the best. :)

maybe he wants it to specify that it is about nook color specifically because there is a normal nook too. just maybe..., though your suggestion makes it more short and cool :)

^ If you're building an India specific site, then it's fine. If you're targeting a global audience, then you may have some issues with people thinking about it as a country specific site and leaving, also certain times Google thinks of it as India specific so you may not get as much global audience from searches as you would get if you had a com/net/org. So keep that in mind. :)

Since you're planning to build a community around it, I would recommend choosing a name that would let people know of it and in a meaningful way. Just like what @ragzdiablo mentioned.

Something like nookcolorhub, nookcolorclub. Or you can even try something like nookcolorwizard, nookcolorpro, nookcolorzone etc. :P

PS: Try and get a .COM if possible.
 
May I know why .COM only ? I mean why not .net or .org ?

I am still confused about the name. Actually my main wish is to build a site, which provides guides and how to's and forum is to discuss if they get any doubts etc. So I have to chose a name which suits to both, for website and forum also. Also I am not sure how my forum will go, but I am sure my site would be getting good visits :)
