@spoiltteen: if you are "tech savvy" and can handle things like partitioning and all, go ahead... if a little hesitant you can try ubuntu's wubi which installs linux sort of like a windows app.... and no, your "existing software" (windows?) wont run on linux, but there is a linux program called "WINE" which can sometimes run windows apps under linux, aint that cool?
