Dreamlinux is good.. But since it hasn't been updated its obsolete package database can be frustrating , it still relies on old kernel so your hardware might not get supported ..

Waiting for DL 3.5 to get released , hopefully it'll be released by the time of Debian 5 ...

Sorri amarbirji hijacking your thread :bleh:

Guyz i have never used linux before and have always been a windows user, but now i wanna try linux

so im getting ubuntu as per the suggestions.

I dont game much so any do's and dont's i need to know while setup or installations?

Will the existing softwares i have run on linux???

@spoiltteen: if you are "tech savvy" and can handle things like partitioning and all, go ahead... if a little hesitant you can try ubuntu's wubi which installs linux sort of like a windows app.... and no, your "existing software" (windows?) wont run on linux, but there is a linux program called "WINE" which can sometimes run windows apps under linux, aint that cool? :D

there is a thread by darkstar about "things to know before using linux" something like that... read it!

^^No ! Linux is not Windows so Win. s/w won't run in it.. As far as Linux is concerned try KDE 4 rather thank Gnome .. I would say get Mandriva FREE or Mandriva One Gnome

Totally disagreed ! I will say just open your mind and eyes before doing any thing .. Read things mentioned there and you will do without any problem :)

Edit ; Here is the guide http://www.techenclave.com/guides-and-tutorials/things-to-know-before-using-linux-117029.html

of course, forgot to mention, make sure you have external backups of all your important files because you should assume you will possibly destroy your data while playing with fire (linux) ehehe

So true !! Amen to that. Didn't happen to me; am a system admin; shame on me if this happens to me :bleh: Lots of friends faced this issue tho.

well ,they thinks Linux dont need harddisk space!omg!I dont know how they expect things like that!

Linux is NOT Windows

Also, how is your post relevant to this discussion??
