As always how much shit my luck is , my new asus laptop got stolen :@ :( . Done the fir , is there any remote possibilty that stolen laptops get recovered ?

also my phone also . so what about stolen mobiles ?

getting back a stolen laptop is really difficult and if you want to get it back, you'd have to be really lucky..

on the other hand, stolen mobiles can be traced by the police and it isn't difficult for them but they don't.. because they don't have time to do public service, they love money and they aren't honest..

although, if you've get a source who can help you trace the phone in the police department, then it can be possible as cops would be accompanying you..

PS: as far as i've experienced, as i've got "guardian" app in my now-stolen N70, it still tracks it for me but the first time when my phone booted off was in Mumbai and it was stolen from Delhi, so you know, thieves know about all this tracking capability of the police and they act smart.. in case your phone have been founded by a person who isn't a theif, there's still a chance..

Actually the phone is quite old so will not be much disappointment for me if i donot get it back. but th lappy is brand new. so much stress is on laptop recovery actually :(

you can try to get back the phone via IMEI mumber trace etc but there is no chance of getting back your laptop unless you catch the person who has both your phone as well as laptop with him.

First thing, report the theft to Asus and your mobile maker.
This way your laptop is marked by Asus, so if some one takes it to service, they'll get alerted...
My friend lost has laptop when his shared rented house got robbed, but he had done fir, so after Y months the cops called him to come to court, there he was given a recovered laptop, it had better config than his lost one.
But obviously, at the end of the day, its the data in PCs that's more important to us.
So from now on try to secure the laptop data thru f fingerprint login, bios level security...and always keep the laptop data sync'd with external HDD, desktop...

its simple, just call their cc and report it to them. They might ask for fir scan .
Next time when you get a mobile, if Android then instal and buy "Look out security "app, that app can even wipe the data on the phone thru their online account.
If Nokia, use "wave secure". There might be some similar sw for laptops too.ight be some similar sw for laptops too.

Edit: Android, opera mini, Swype and TE's small reply text box is causing so many weird word mix up. :p

Just called up Asus and registered the case. Sadly they donot have the tech to trace a stolen laptop; :@

and how are you supposed to trace a gadget which is not linked to the internet? its not mobile phone you know:P

Will you say the same if it was of any M.P or any celebrity ? I am not saying i am either of them but there are technologies in india , ven police would be much eager to solve the case if i am from any influential backround.

Well, in that case its usually a local guy, who would have done it. Chances of recovery extremely slim. last year, in my building, a similar incident of a stolen mobile happened on the third floor! But not known if any complaint has been lodged/thief caught.

Do try to find out if the phone has been used at all, ask them to check records. If any calls have been made, do a police inspector imitation (ask chirag for help on that :ohyeah:) on the number called by the thief. Try to backtrack. Might get your phone/laptop back. But definitely worth a try.

i would have said the same thing...

Doesnt matter whether you are a MP or filmstar or cricketer, a stolen laptop should be forgotten but i would not say the same for phone as it can be traced via IMEI.

you guys are vastly mistaken buddy. there is a stong racket of theives in different areas who operate these kind of crimes and police well realy do know about it , if pressurised from right sources these guys can do wonder, but alas i donot have any :( .. i have lost the hope to get it back .
