PC Peripherals strange problem with 10 yr old PC!

so it's an office PC used for/as a private school.

the day before yesterday my dad was workin on it it and suddenly when he tried to save something ,,a message displayed sayin no disk space and blah blah...(acc. to him)

system restarted after that

from then different errors are displayed before the booting process and sometimes the HDD is not shown during the startup but this is written -"...."

The system boots 1 out of 10 times and remains slow workin ....and then suddenly crashes/restarts:S

Errors-

sometimes -"could not read from the disk"

even the formatting disk seems to work slow:S

i have unassembled each an evry part and reassembled it...no fix yet!:(

2 things could be problem from my perspective

-virus?

-HDD wire or hardware problem?

Help is need:)

The errors mentioned above point to a Faulty HDD, there might be 2 reasons to this :

1. It has developed bad sectors.(most likely) or wear and tear of spindle ( unlikely though)

2. It could be that the HDD cable is faulty.

Edit : Does it show an error saying there is a problem with Media Descriptor Table or something ??
 
Its great to read that you have kept such an old system running.

As ultra vires said: it is most probably the hdd or cable. Just for check sake could yoiu unplug the hdd cable and bootup, If the ram posts fine and you hear a single beep as well as the board shows no signs of errors then it could just be the hdd.

If your psu is 10rs old it may no longer be able to supply enough power to your pc. Due to capacitor ageing, it's probably giving you about 30% of what it used to initially.
Try your comp with a different psu, and see if that solves the problems.

Yeah the cable could be the problem...i will change it with a new one and see the result!
