Stream content from PC to 5800 XM (or to any mobile)

Use the ORB software to stream the movies, music and photos from your PC to the phone.(tried to stream using VLC, but to no avail)

First, you will need to download and install the Orb software, you can get it at Orb | Media Anywhere.

Register yourself at orb.com. (You can do it directly from the mobile itself.)

Once the orb software is installed, goto the system tray, and there you can see the orb icon. Right click and select configuration. There you can setup the directories from where the contents are to be selected. Video, photos,music, documents can be added.

Now, just point your browser in the mobile to Orb. Give the login credentials and you will be able to browse through the contents. The contents will be streamed over the wifi. (you can access the same over GPRS also and from another site)

Photo browsing is not so good but you can watch streaming videos with real player which is pretty good. The good thing is that, it will play any file irrespective of whether it is flv , divx, mpeg etc...

Lovely app. Works like a charm. Now i can easily watch TV episodes which i download on my lappy.

Now only if there was a app which would help me configure my utorrent client on my PC with my 5800 :)

do u mean u wish to access utorrent on the pc via the 5800 ? , there is already a torrent client for the 5800.......i have it :hap2: not tested it extensively though.
 
If you want to control the torrent client running on your pc from 5800, Just access utorrent with the WEBUI.. You need to enable the Webui in utorrent though.

http://ipwheretorrentruns:8080/gui/ (eg:http://192.168.1.4:8080/gui/)

Simple..but feasible solution:)

sweeet !.....testing it right now.......

edit : tested , dint work....i wondering how would the phone know where to look , on the lan or external...typically it would look for a live ip. maybe im doing something wrong....

edit : trying orb now....

now question @ switch......is it routing the streaming from laptop - wifi - orb server - and back down again to the phone ? or is it direct from laptop - wifi - phone
 
its direct... i.e. via wifi and not via server. It wont be able to download and show the movie so quickly.

it surely is going out to the external cloud , thats wat i feel........i had a friend check it out on his phone over his wifi....at another location........refering to the url > login > accessing the shared media files and streaming it......so streaming then moves from my laptop - wifi - orb - his wifi - phone........

i really doubt this is an internal route....the reason why its faster is we are routing it back to our phone, by the time the wifi routes it outside it knows it has to go back nearby where it came from..... however if the bandwidth is choppy there aint anything that can be done......
 
Nahh... I think the software is smart enough to realize that it dosen't need the net once the feed starts...

Try this... Log on and start a feed... Then switch off the modem with WiFi router ON... Works ;)

Edit: Also regarding the webui of utorrent... I feel that Nokia's stock browser is not able to display the username ans password window but it surely does connect... Anybody with anyother browser installed care to try it out... I have a gut feeling that it should work with the latest version of opera...
 
Huh! Its working for me on the default browser of 5800 XM(utorrent WebUI)

Browser does prompt me the username and password and I am able to view the UI. Since the UI is flash based, it's a bit slow... but its working.

Side Note: Just try with the url http://ip:8080/gui. (Note that you will have to open up whichever port you like in the torrent settings and use that in the url. Also make sure that you are not putting in "www" in the url aka "http://wwww" )

I will try to put a screenshot tomo.

Thats the problem with orb you need to be logged in to enable streaming ... cant do it over local wifi withiout net access :(
 
Nothing to install on the phone.. just point your browser in the mobile to Orb.

That is exactly why I am using SymPlayer to play/stream MP3 files directly from my computer. Over Wi-Fi and 3G.

Ovi is a small bright toy for kids who believe in promises printed in big letters.
In reality it is NOT providing access to files on your computer. It is only providing access to the files that were copied in advance from your computer to middlemen OVI server. This is a useless approach as if I will know in advance what files are needed then I will copy them to my phone to start with.
The whole point of access computer files from phone is ability to access all files, not just ones selected in advance.
I am not even talking about security issues here, as with OVI my files will be copied to a computer that belongs to someone else, the middle men, and if you will read an agreement, the middle man is not going to take any responsibility for anything.

Forget about OVI, just try SymPlayer and see for yourself, this soft plays only MP3 files, but it is a pure streaming from your personal computer.
All you need to do in this case is to configure what folders or whole computer drives are accessable as a shared folders, then simply access them from your phone.
