hi everyone,
i have a studio 1555 laptop with me.
the specs are
c2d - t6600
4gb 800 mhz ram
320 gb 7200 rpm drive

few days back i had a unique problem. when i press both the trackpad keys (exerting presure on the place where both the keys meet).
my laptop used to get turn off. no blue screen's nothing, just a complete turnoff.
i complained about this to dell. they gave me a replacement of mobo and palm rest. but the issue was not solved . later again the mobo and palm rest were replaced.
but the problem was still there.
the third time when i got the replacment i checked the mobo area which comes just below the palm rest i saw some ic's there. later i looked at the palm rest buttons they had metal backplate.
so i insisted the engineer who was changing the parts to please add a plastic tape layer(pvc) before assembling. he agreed and the problem was gone.

so all studio 1555 owners plzz check your laptops.
turn on ur laptop. press both the trackpad keys simulatneously(exerting pressure to the palce were both the keys meet) and press them a little harder. do this for about 10 times and check weather u get ur notebooks turned off or not. and if there is a problem report dell about this.

Pardon my ignorance, but why would you need to do that? :S

You either use the left or right key, right? And in general, not much pressure is exerted at that particular section.

i read somewhere in tips and tricks.

that when in internet explorer u take ur mouse pointer to a particular link and press both the keys simultaneously a new tab is opened automatically. u don't have to right click and select open in new tab.

i was trying to do this only.

and in mozilla firefox if u press both the keys simultaneously then it gets minimized.

^^ In minesweeper, pressing both the clicks opens all the surrounding mines if you've already opened the given number of mines.

Also, some laptops give out middle-click code when both the clicks are pressed simultaneously, I think this can also be edited in Synaptics control panel.
