pls help me out...
my configuration is
Vista 64 Bit
Phenom 9550
gigabyte GA-MA78GM
2gb Kingston 667 MHz ram
1000+500+320+320 GB of Storage..
off late i am experiencing some strange problem... the physical memory utilization suddenly jumps to 95-100%... PC starts lagging for 5 mins or so and then memory usage falls to 30-35%.. during the lag period CPU usage remains 3-5%.. cant even start the task manager as it gives a error saying Failed to start windows security services.. this problem i faced before on my dual core too.. so checked the hdd's too they show 100% health and 0 bad sectors... installed windows just a day back... once i tried keeping the task manager on from before...then when it lagged with the task manager on, no process showed memory usage above 40mb.. so no process using high memory... pls help me out guys..
thnx in advance

It's very much probable due to some bad sector on your HDD. I recommend u check it thoroughly for the bad sector with some good tool. I know u did, bt sometimes it helps. It helped me with HDD Tune pro while some other s/w didnt show it up n yeah that was the problem

Scan with an AV. Just for a precaution. Use some 3rd part process monitoring to find some fake process like crss.exe-they will have their root in temp folder.

Its a bug in Vista x64, where certain programs use the entire memory space, sometimes even during copying large files, the entire 4GB RAM is used up as a buffer slowing down the entire system to a crawl.

It happens also during certain game installations as well. It's neither a HDD problem nor a virus or rootkit problem.

Its just a bug in 64 bit of Vista, probably 64 bit windows OS's.
So, just live on with it till a solution comes...:)

Though the problem does not occur always but just sometimes, so doesn't matter much...:cool2:

It happens in my laptop when renaming the big files(like 700 mb or above) or during copy pasting. I am using Vista Ultimate 64 Bit SP1(I guess this problem started only After installing SP1). I am using Avast Pro 4.8.
