Guys I"m looking forward to buy a TV as my beloved Hisense (out of warranty) ran into some minor software issue and that Flipkart has offered me complete refund (you heard that right)

Now I will be buying a separate android box to so suggest a normal 4k tv.

Budget: 26k
Display Type: 4k (non android/non smart if possible)
Brands: Any good brands excluding all ultra cheap brand like iffalcon/thomson/bpl/kodak crap etc. I think MI will be good but need reviews from people using here.

I don't think you can find non-smart/non-android TVs these days. I tried myself and this is the issue I am myself afraid of - software/android hardware issue causing the TV to be rendered useless. But unfortunately this is the world we live in these days.

I thought these had HDMI inputs. Does that only work after Android has booted ?
Yes, first it boots then only you can change to HDMI or other input source, sometimes it remembers last source input and starts quickly.
If it's turned off from wall socket then surely it will cold start.

Exactly, as rdst said there isn't any TV available which is not smart. Mostly android and some proprietary OS like Tizen and WebOS from Samsung and LG respectively.
What will be your primary usage and preference like display quality / sound / performance ?
For this budget I think Hisense has got good display and VU is also using Hisense panel which is excellent for the price, though I'm seriously disappointed with their pathetic CS.

All these are manufactured in same manner here in India only, picture quality can only be compared if all these TVs are placed side by side. Important aspect is customer service, warranty and specs.

This blaupunkt model has also got some good ratings - 4k TV
or spend 10-12k more and get a LG 4k 43", LG's webos loads really quick and their magic remote can be used as a mouse for quick navigation.
As for the service we're already familiar with what to expect from LG and Samsung.
My LG is working flawlessly after 3yrs 1month as of today. I faced and still some issues with VU after 21 months of use.

I would suggest get a TCL 4k android tv from their iffalcon range. These have native Android TV v9 OS builtin so you dont need a separate box. Most boxes anyway only run regular Android and not Android TV OS.
Android TV OS is much better than only Android because a lot of OTT services like Netflix wont run in 4K on regular boxes. My iffalcon 65" is working great for more than a year, no issues till date. I also have Kodi loaded. The only con is the 60 to 90 secs boot time

My Hisense was vanilla android os based tv with zero issues. Boot time 50secs. Just that I went to sleep and next day when I turned on the tv bang, after android loading screen there was a bank display.
Without zero issue signs this is what I got. No application lading except for mxplayer and no nonsense crap. Rom was 3gb free as well.
Its 10000% a software issue which could be easily fixed by a simple software flash but cos. always want to loot and they quoted me 4.2k for a new mobo with just 1 month warranty. I got pissed off and escalated to Flipkart and eod I'm getting a complete refund for an oow product is what matters to me.,

In fact I manually downloaded the rom to flash via usb but there are two types of roms: One which can be flashed via usb while other need to be feed directly via mobo console for which specialized tools are required.

Hence this time I want to opt for a dedicated android box to be coupled with a basic 4k tv.

Android tvs are too slow no matter 2gb of ram or 1 lac tv. Dedicated android box is they only way for a stutter free exp.

My query was more to do with if they have an option to bypass Android boot and use only the display with something like FireTV stick or dedicated Android box. From the responses, it does not appear to be available so if the Android TV OS conks off, the TV is unusable, which is bad.

Yes. The option only works in normal smart tvs. I have Sony and Samsung smart tvs at my parent home where when you turn on the tv it directly boots to the chosen input (stb in my instance) that too within a seconds. So no
wait periods etc.
While in Android tvs, the patchwall /launcher will load and then you have to again choose the input mode every time. So in all to watch your news or desired channel the overall wait period is roughly around 3 minutes right from turning on the tv.

Actually in my iFFalcon TCL, the selected input remains same, does not change on each restart. I have tatasky connected to one of the HDMI ports and though Android loading takes a minute, it directly starts with tatasky HDMI and you have to press a button to go into the Smart Screen interface if you want which is how it should be. Though it would be nice if it boots up in a few seconds in HDMI and only boots android when the smart interface button is pressed.

LG 108 cm (43 inches) 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV 43UP7500PTZ (Rocky Black) (2021 Model) @ 37.5k
Because Vu Android TV is best but since you want non android I suggested LG and next comes Samsung while other brands charge premiums. So not at all recommended. I am using the above same model and its superb good without any lag what so ever.
If you want to do video conferencing using any webcam then you need an android TV and then Vu TVs are best since Mi, realme, Motorola etc brands RMA is terrible. They say parts are not available if it its under warranty if you are willing to pay then their parts become available almost surprisingly immediate. I suffered with Motorola so suggesting you not to go for such brands.
If you want an android TV then I would suggest
Vu Premium 108 cm (43 inch) Ultra HD (4K) LED Smart Android TV @ 27k

Out of these two, which one do you prefer and why? I only need it to watch movies and use with my ps4.

I've got both LG oct 2018 and VU jan 2019 (obviously a couple of years old models)
Both are excellent option as suggested by @bssunilreddy .
LG has got a notch better video quality and overall performance. You can expect awesome customer support.
VU premium is good for the price with awful customer care, but good picture quality for the price.
LG is IPS and VU is VA panel (what they call A+), viewing angles on both are not the best but OK.
Internal specs aren't disclosed by LG but it's superior than VU, specially processing power and CPU, GPU.

LG's audio performance is excellent.
VU's audio is poor quality.

Network connectivity is OK for both may be LG has a slight edge here.

I've used this VU 43PM model also for a week (given by my friend who's a dealer, since my VU 43-OA was gone for repair)
This specific model also has poor audio, I find 3-4 dead pixels in this new unit.
If you've better customer support for VU in your area then it's Kind of OK to save a some money but You can't go wrong with LG.
You can take VU as you intend to use it with PS4 only.

I am also considering a new 43 " 4k,
only other 2 options I've selected are -
Blaupunkt
&
Thomson Oathpro

only these two 've got better GPU than the competition and Blaupunkt is even IPS panel.

I'd avoid vu if budget is not an issue . I've taken extended warranty from vu for my 43 inch 4k android TV. It devops a problem every year , they have already changed the board twice . Most new Android apps in my TV I think its a 2018 model don't work . Sony liv and zee5 don't work in my TV. I'm thinking of buying a mi TV stick for it .

I'm facing issue with this VU since 12 aug 2021, initiated almost 5-7 service requests, one is still pending. Got a call today and engineer promised to procure motherboard from Mumbai within 2 days.
overall horrible support.

Ya I wanted to get a sony but the cheapest 4k offering is 55k which is way beyond my budget. Ill probably get the LG during the next sale. Thanks a lot for the replies.

Thanks man. Do let me know how the Blaupunkt or the Thomson (whichever you get) compare against the LG after you get it.

OMG! Till now I have been hearing only positives about VU and now so many issues all of a sudden!
VU just launched their new tvs on 2nd dec with 3yr warranty options and one of my friend is vouching on it so though about giving it a try as my budget is max 26k.
