I got some high end stuff recently (Palit 1gb 4870, TX650W, CM 690,etc), and i'm now waiting for the x3 720 to build my rig. The problem is i'm a little stumped over what mobo to get.
Since the x3 720 is a black edition processor, i assume it wont benefit much from the ACC in SB750, so i thought i'd settle for the 780G chipset, which costs half as much as a decent 790 mobo.
Right now i have my eyes sitting pretty on the ASUS M3A78-EM. It costs a little over rs4500 here, and comes with the typical ASUS goodie list (expressgate,q-connector). The cons are that its has only heatsinks(no heatpipes), and its microATX(not really a con but i prefer ATX).
So, are there any other alternatives around that price range?

go for the biostar 790 gx3 its got a lot more options to overclock. Just changed the exact same asus mobo to this myself and overclocking options are far more plus its full atx and Rs. 4600-4800 only.

The other advantage of the 790GX is that ACC might let you unlock the fourth core... Where are you getting the 720 btw? I want one myself :)

Biostar 790GXB A2+ 790GX + SB750 - 4.2k

If you wanna crossfire

Biostar 790GX 128m - 128mb sideport memory + Crossfire support so go for that SB750 with ACC - yeah 5.2k to 5.5k you will get that ...lots of options for OC

How is the OC performance? how far could you get with your processor stable? Your 940's OC would be similar to a 720's.

I'm also considering GigaByte GA-MA790X-UD4P. Its SB750, and it doesnt have onboard IGP which is useless for me. How is its availability here?

Its better to get the xtra onboard igp, just in case anything goes wrong with your video card. this way if something does go wrong you will still be able to use the computer for low res gaming and internet and mail. I would strongly suggest against the asus that you have chosen cause I have used it. Looks good with all black and all that but not much for overclcockers. The biostar is much better and this is the T series from Biostar which is quite good in terms of build and quality.

The two PCI Express graphics slots support CrossFire so you get 16 lanes of PCIe 2.0 with a single graphics card and eight lanes per slot in CrossFire. At least that’s how it works with the Foxconn but with the Biostar the split is fixed at eight lanes per slot so anyone using a single graphics card has to plug a switch card into the second slot to ensure all 16 lanes are fed to the Primary slot - a first clue as to the Biostar's low price.

and what does this mean?

Its good mate..its got manual oC besides Automated Ocing...where it gives 3 options V6 Engine V8 Engine and V10 Engine(named based on car engines):hap2: and so yeah its pretty good...Gigabyte well if you are willing spend the money get it...but i feel the product from Biostar is good enough...

Anything other than BIOSTAR in the same price range... Its missing eSATA which is now very much needed... unlike ASUS mobo which lacks OC capability but has good no. of features...

Why do I think that there are very little 790GX + 750 SB mobo's in the market.... Or is it....

Even I thought about the missing esata port at the back panel but, AFAIK we can always use a esata bracket which connects to the internal esata ports. The only thing to make it work is AHCI SATA drivers loaded properly. (That will make it hot swappable)

If I wrong anywhere plz let me know:)

dont even think about it. i thought it would be more in line with the us prices (about 8k rs), but my best retailer quoted 11.5k:mad:

imo the best 790gx board in the top end(ie no biostar or jetway) is the MSI DKA790GX. costs a little over 9k.

Very rightly said its very stable and better cooled. Has all the connecters you can think of. But this model does not has the 128 MB of memory u see on other boards. The platinum does (128MB DDR3, Biostar has DDR2) and it is arround 9.5 - 10 in delhi.

Edit: As u already have a gfx card the onboard memory wont make u a differrence.

I don't understand why motherboards are so bloody expensive here. Most other hardware components are almost similar in price to their US counterparts, but that completely breaks down with motherboards.

Just today i saw a review of the new gigabyte 790x mobo, and the reviewer said he shelled out nearly 11.5k. Thats not all, the gigabyte 790GX mobo, for which the 790X is supposed to be a cheaper alternative for those with discrete graphic solutions, costs around 10k. Overpricing stuff is one thing, overpricing blindly without looking at the market its aimed at is utterly retarded.

Almost all the motherboards released after mid-2008 are costing twice as much here as in the US. Is there any particular reason for this? Its annoying as hell that theres such a gigantic price gap between a decent 780 and 790 mobo. I'm sure its pretty similar with P35 to P45 transition too.

Currently I'm very open to the possibility of importing motherboards, since it would spare me atleast some 3k on a high end mobo. The only thing stopping me is I'm afraid of ending up with a bricked mobo.

^^Buddy Mbs are expensive cause you are eyeing at the premium products.. Believe me except few sparkel those premium board are not so worth it..

Brands like Jetway and Biostar has opened new way for both Performance and value mb segment :p

Get the 790GX from Jetway or Biostar @ 5-6k :) No point in wasting so much money in AM2+
