Suggest a 5.1 for LCD TV

Why would setup a 5.1 for a TV output. You would not get any surround sound and output of TV will be generally Stereo in nature. There is no use going for a 5.1. Settle down for 2.1 at that price range. Wait for others to comment more on it.
I would be watching movies from my media player connect to the TV.
