Hi

I am looking for a DVD Player for about 3k. It should have Divx/Xvid support, and should be able to play home-made DVDs. Whats the best I can get for the price?

Search dude there are like 5 posts in which this issue has been discussed in detail and yes philips 5150 is good. i just bought that.

Try Pioneer 393 its zone free and they are really Pioneer in playing all kinda disks including badly scratched ones.

Get the LG 9533, a good player and within your budget, plays DIVX/Xvid just fine.

PS : This is an old model, newer models have bound to have appeared check em out.

Thanks for the help. Can you suggest a couple of more models in my budget, so that I can look at all of them, and choose which is best for me?

Get the Philips 5150 / Pio 393, both are excellent drives. I'd stay away from LG/Samsung.

Thnx anish... does 5150 support 5.1 channel output.... and somebody in this forum had mentioned that this player is available for 3800/- but the philps website says 4990/- .... any idea about this...

Bought Pioneer 492 VS for 89$ in US with HDMI interface and it really turns your normal DVD to a true 1080i resolution.

The market price will be much less than quoted on the website.

Connectivity
Rear Connections : Analog audio Left/Right out, Composite video (CVBS) output, Digital coaxial out, ComponentVideo out Progressive, Analog audio Multi-channel out

BTW, where and how do you plan to connect the player ?

I will probably be looking for a new Divx player for my downstairs TV (using Xbox to play Divx, Xvid, rmvb etc upstairs). So nice find this thread. :)

But Philips 5150 does not support Xvid.... only DivX..... Can somebody confirm this.....

Most of the DVD players are able to play the usual divx and xvid encoded movies. However within xvid, a movie can be encoded in different xvid format which the DVD player might not support.

Best would be take some sample divx and xvid encoded movies on a DVD and take a demo at the store :ohyeah:

or you can try this http://www.techenclave.com/forums/divxtest-cd-for-dvd-players-86173.html
