Any Writer with Warrenty is good. All are up to the Mark !!

Sony is in market a lot !!

Price totally depends on your city and place of purchase. Last time i chked at lammy .. it is arnd 1k.

I would personally take LiteOn over Sony and Samsung. Have had horrible experiences with those two, but the never with the LiteOns.

Sony DRU/AWG 190/AD 7190 is a liteon 20A3 :P - I have one !

most people seem to be recommending the Samsung SH 203B/D

problems occurring with samsung have reduced greatly in last 1 year. i use mine occasionally and its working perfect for more than 15 months now.

Samsung 20X.. donno the exact model name. Picked it up 3 months back for abt 1250 incl VAT. Working superbly.

well i am having problems with burning as well as the tray on my Sony .. it sucks big time.. its the 2nd or 3rd drive from sony thats giving me the creeps.

Btw.. i ve heard Pioneer is a good brand coming up in the market.. any one tried that ?

well the samsung SH-S203(sata) is the fastest, but the sony DRU-845s(sata) is almost as fast but built better IMO,u also get an extra black bezel.
what i dont like about the samsung was the tray assembly and spin down noise as if somebody pulled the parking brakes.

to tell u truth

ALL DVD DRIVES ARE EQUALLY PATHETIC OR EQUALLY GOOD

most drives that come in india are oem drives(which are not known for their quality according to cd freaks, they are made to last out warranty time of system builder).

also the brand and manufacturer are different.thus u can rarely trust a brand name here.

eg.

sony drives are sometimes liteon and sometimes nec.

well all dvd drives available in india ->sony/samsung/liteon/lg have shown tendencies to crap out after about 1.5 years of regular usage.if u rarely use the drives , it may last a little more.

surprisingly enough they last good for their warranty times(1 year) and after that like a time bomb they go kaput!!

the performance varies a bit but cannot play decider as diff is only bout +-5%.

that is why we don't have any clear winner in dvd burners category.

moral->

1. know what u want sata/pata

2. lightscribe is a no issue due to rare/expensive media

3. performance diff are non decider(media is only till 16x). thus 18X or 20X may not be most intelligent decision

4. buy cheapest drive available in the nmarket . it will last u good for a year(within a year u can always RMA it)

meanwhile save a little per month for a year to buy ur next drive.

Thanks Main_Trouble( phew!!! intelligent post) and all here. Will go to the market tomo and get either a Samsung or a Sony drive.

I have been quoted a price of Rs 1125/- inclusive of taxes. Is it OK?

@Aman.pitbull: You mentioned the price as 1050. Did that include VAT?
