^^ LOL :lol

I mean listen to radio sometimes, when i bathe and not bathe sometimes :P

How much did you get it for and if possible can you link me to the same on ebay ??

Here it is, I got it Rs.25/- (using Rs.250/- off coupon). Mine is Kachibo (over box: KK808) really very crystal clear compare to my 3 FM tuners till today. Some time when reception is bad or weak signal I use to cheap wire put one end our of window & other end with antenna using U pin & all is clear :)

Don't know if it has AM, but have lots of other bands.

I also seen same model with some feriwalas over Borivali railway foot bridge.

^^ I guess you are talking about the east-west Foot over bridge at Borivali , but that is closed now and yes i do remember that bridge had all sorts of vendors selling radios and cassette players

Also the one that you have, does it work on AC also or only battery ? If only battery then normal AA pencil cells ?

^^Dual speakers if possible then only.

It like currently i have a philips cassette player + radio tuner and that had two speakers on sides and in middle there is a cassette deck.

^^ decide your budget first.Guessing wont help.

if u need battery powered radio dual speakers look for the boombox or else the 2.1 speakers.

still u need more portability you get what emperor suggested.

Only AA pencil cell option, 3.5 head phone jack, every day on 40-60 minutes use (without head phone), 2 cells last nearly 6 months for me. :)

PS: On/Off switch also use as Sound leveler. Switch is little hard to roll to select station or adjust sound or on/off. Red led near front panel to show battery health.

bumping my old thread.
looking to buy a radio for casual listening, built in speaker needed.
Decent sound quality.
price less than 500, cheaper the better.
there are some orkia brand stuff available on eBay. Any idea about those ?
MP3 functionality is not necessary.
Decent reception indoors (near window) and decent sound expected.

+ 1

I too have been looking out for the same. Just a radio (Analog or Digital) .... and no CD/DVD player. Sony used to have some lovely models (not anymore).

BTW what happenned to SW broadcasting ? When I was a kid we had MW & LW too...and they were great many stations from around the world we could tune onto. My favourites used to be Radio Ceylon; BBC; Radio Australia & the good old Vividh Bharati with Amin Sayani........ Ahhh, "those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end....."

I have terribly regretted that we got rid of our tube/valve radio way back in the late 70's. I am sure it would still have worked.
Check this link ..... Avian?s Blog: Old tube radios | such stuff may still be available at Chor Bazaar (but would cost a bomb).

Sigh

A Philips portable radio ( 2 or 3 bands eg. RL191) should be sufficient. most of the shortwave radio
stations are still working but a portable radio doesn't cover all important frequencies

^ band switches of such pocket radios do not last longer !!
moreover we do not get good quality of sound from small speakers of pocket radios

I had about a month ago purchased a Sony SRF-18 Stereo FM/AM Radio from Flipkart on strength of the reviews- and must say that it is the very best - most portable FM radio - sound is typical Sony- top drawer and reception is just beautiful. 2 charged NiMH AA batteries have lasted a month of use 2-3 hrs a day. It is 1250 with flipkart and 1999 on ebay

I think i will have to apply the "Mehenga roye ek baar....sasta roye baar baar" thing here.
Rather than buying the chinese junk, better to invest in a good quality radio.

Have,nt regretted my purchase of Sony SRF-18 one bit- nor will u- move fast before these classic radios disappear from Indian Market.
