Hello Frenz,

I was buying a XPS M1730, but its base model is around 1300$ including taxes and shipping..Also its just a Dual 8700 SLI and 2GB RAM..

So know me confused, my budget is around 1000$, someone is buying it for me from USA...

Which one do you prefer, i have few options in mind :-

Newegg.com - ASUS G Series G50VT-X6 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz) 15.4" Wide SXGA+ 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS - Laptops / Notebooks

Newegg.com - HP Pavilion dv7-1270us NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8600(2.40GHz) 17.0" Wide XGA+ 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 5400rpm BD Combo NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT - Laptops / Notebooks

Newegg.com - Open Box: ASUS N50 Series N50Vn-X6 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8400(2.26GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 4GB Memory 320GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT
My basic req would be gaming,

Few issues are warranty, heating isuues...

Do suggest some gud laptop...
Thanks again..

Thinkpad T400? Super sturdy, runs very cool and comes with international warranty on select models. Mine cost just about 1100. Check my sig for specs.

If you want something with a better GPU and a bigger 15" screen, try out the T500 (256 Radeon HD3650) or W500 (512MB Mobility).

ASUS ftw!!! 2-year Global warranty too!

Newegg.com - ASUS F50SV-X1 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T6400(2.00GHz) 16" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 120M - Laptops / Notebooks

Equpped with GT 120M 1 GB Graphics Card.

Slower clocked GeForce GT 130M with the same features (55nm) and a lower power consumption. Successor of the 9600M GS and about as fast as the 9600M GT.

Notebookcheck: Computer Games on Laptop Graphic Cards

C how close GT 120M is to 9600GT and is wayyyyyyyyy better than HD3470

PS: The version of GT 120M listed in the comparison is 512MB whereas that offered on newegg is 1GB!!! :hap2:

$800 ONLY!!!

The T400 has a mid-range GPU and isn't really suited to high end gaming.

The HD3650 in the T500 can easily play some of the latest games at medium resolutions. Try this link for a more detailed review:

Lenovo T500 ThinkPad Review

Of course, if you're looking for a dedicated gaming machine, you will need to spend close to 1500 to buy anything decent since most laptops in the sub-1000 category are primarily suited for other tasks. The Thinkpad range is actually a business series of laptops but their GPUs make them well suited for gaming at medium resolutions (1280x800 etc.).

Here is the complete graphics chart for mobility chips. You might want to concentrate on laptops with Class 1 or Class 2 cards.

Sorry, but HD3650 cannot play latest games at medium res/settings..
It gets less than 27fps in FC2, GRID, COD4 (n no fps in crysis, gta4, supreme commander etc.)

GT 120M is 90% better performing than HD3650

Of course man. I'm not debating that. Read the last sentence in my previous post: Thinkpads are actually business laptops with a decent GPU and are in no way dedicated gaming laptops.

Not sure what you are smoking but you are sorely mistaken about GTA4. The game runs quite well on a T500 at low/medium settngs.

India

ASUS Technology Pvt. Ltd. *

18002090365 (09:00-17:00 Mon.~Fri.)

Mumbai

4C Gundecha Onclave, Kherani Road, Sakinaka, Andheri East, Mumbai- 400072, India.

U shud call at this no. and ask...

Ok... i read more at Asus site...

I think Asus provides International warranty free of cost.

Incase of RMA, u jst need to send ur notebook to above address (mumbai) n they shall service/replace it for u.

http://support.asus.com/service/service.aspx?no=407&SLanguage=en-us

Call on the no. and let us all know... coz a $500 saving (as compared to other similar performance laptops) IS A BIG DEAL. And ASUS's Laptop quality is by any means better than HP/MSI etc etc.

(i chked and purchase two asus laptops over time for frnds and both working flawlessly, no heating issues, rock solid build quality, awesome features like rotating 2MP webcam, card readers, etc etc and both have 2-year warranty as compared to only 1 year from other brands -)

Im toking abt Asus F5SL (Equipped with HD3470 512MB) locally available in india for rs. 39k only.

AFAIK Asus Global warranty is valid on all notebooks, all u need is online registration on Asus website when u pruchase the product. (register within 30days)

^^^ Called them up, and they said " we provide international warranty for 2 years and 1 year on battery "

So i guess ASUS ol d way....

Regarding the model, that 800$ is fine, or some something near 1000$ wont also be a problem..

WOW!!! that beats eveything!!!

Update: Found something VFM @ $1100:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220490

2.4Ghz Processor, 9700M GT, 320Gb 7200rpm drive

But i wud still recommend $800 laptop as GT 120M gfx consumes much less power than 9 series GPUs like 9600GT or 9700GT.. 7200rpm drive will also consume more battery. Hence laptop's battery duration will be much lower in the $1100 laptop. Moreover u shud rather spend $300 on smthing else (Provided u are not a pure gamer. In that case - $1100 laptop is better as it will run latest games on med/high as compared to med/low in $800 lappy)

Update2: Will check review of both the laptops n shall let u know.

^^9800M GS in a Laptop is TOO HOT.. Not recommended anything above 9700M GT.

Newegg.com - ASUS N50 Series N50Vn-X6 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8400(2.26GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 4GB Memory 320GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT - Laptops / Notebooks

$899, 9650M GT (Veryyy close to 9700M GT), 2.26Ghz Processor

Conclusion: $800 and $900 configs are the best.. forget anything above or below these.

My opinion: $800 Laptop + Sennheiser HD555 $89 = $889 :hap2:-->Laptops are not meant for hardcore full-setting gaming anyways and their speakers are not sufficient for movies/gaming/anything.
