Ok,
My folks are looking to buy a split AC (1.5 Ton), so what would you guys recommend ? Any brand in particular that I should avoid ?

Thanks.

Outer Unit - Lg, Inside Unit-axiom. Best Choice. Thiz Config I Have In My Parents Room And It Chillz In Just 3 Mins. In My Room Its Axiom Inside Unit And Outside Some Crap Unit. Doesnt Give Out Much Fresh Air. Both 2 Tons Each :p

An AC configuring need some basic info.

what is the size of room?
what is the direction of room? does it face any direct sunlight?
what are the instruments in room (like a pc which produces heat)?
what is occupancy rate of the room (how many persons at a time will be accomodated)?

And last but not least what is your budget?

Top of line brands:
O-General / Daikin / Hitachi.

Good Market mover brands:
Electrolux / Onida / Frizair / Carier

To avoid brnads:
Samsung / LG / Voltas / Bluestar

Im not sure why Voltas is in the Avoid Brands list. IMO its much better than Onida/Electrolux and just as good as Carrier. I got a Voltas Split in my room, and its much better than the Hitachi in my Dads room. Infact Hitachi would be what I would recommend avoiding, its just too much hype and too little substance.

Carrier Estrella @23.5k 1 Ton Mumbai

Look for FEDDERS LLOYD, as per Local Tech Person, it use 3/8 size condenser pipe while all other use half of 3/8.

Medpal what you say about Carrier Estrella/Fedders?

oopss Amaresh Talking about 1.5 my bad

I've used 3 brands at home - Samsung, General and Hitachi. Hitachi's were brought from Dubai, and seem to be much better than the models available here, though I can't figure out why it should be so. My bedroom back home is 18 x 14 feet and is cooled by a single 1.5 tonne hitachi in 6 min.

For our living/sitting room which is freakin huge (70 x 44 feet) we use 2 x 2 ton samsung nano's.

All these A/C's are around 2 years old, and no issues, except a servicing every 6 months or so. So my experience with Samsung and hitachi has been good. General is used a lot in Dubai, which gets hotter than India (for the most), so I think a lot of the brand too.

1 Electrolux Split, 1 Electrolux Window & 1 Hitachi Window 1.5 ton each in my house

the after sales support of Electrolux beats Hitachi's in Kolkata :)

so I recommend Electrolux :ohyeah:

Electrolux good too. Availability in Jabalpur was an issue when I bought these.

A word of advice, a split consumes more, though is aesthetic. If for a bedroom, with a window, then go window a/c. Basically window a/c's tend to spot cool better. A split will cool a little slower keep in mind.

Budget is around 30k. Size is approx 180 sq ft. This is a hall, so there would be a TV & Fridge as the instruments in the room.

Are you sure the Estrella price has come down this much  . i believe i bought this unit for 28k.. for 23k i think duracool model was available when i enquired

Take my word the power consumption on Estrella is very low. the EB bill we paid was 1.5k for 2 months. generally we pay 800rs and we are using almost every night as well as in the afternoon.

i am right now using two frizair window, one electrlux split and two onida splits.

all are 1.5 tonnes except one onida split which is 1 tonne.

amaresh you mentioned the hall is it open one side, then cooling it with AC will send powerbills skyhigh.

and still if you need the cooling try to fit in a window as spot cooling will be much better if the area needed cool is small.

Medpal, the hall can be fully isolated by shutting the door, so it's not really open on one side.
thats better.

with 180 square feet area what is the height of ceiling if its more that 8 feet i think you will need 2 tonne AC to better utilise.
