Hello Friends,

My Sony DVD writer stop working after 4 yrs :). I'm not heavy cd/dvd burner or reader but want something long lasting Optical Drive.

I read that sony-nec-optriac optical drives are good but now days they don't have Emergency Disk Eject Pin Hole. :(

Kindly suggest best IDE DVD Writers up to 1.5k

Thanks :)

IDE??? Why are you not going for more future proof SATA drives??

Anyway I think there is nothing called best, everyone will provide their opinions.

I personally recommend LG. Got great service from it and even my friends whom I've recommended.

Mods please del these post. I got 15secs wait message and then after submitting the post again I saw the reply got already posted.

LG IDE drives are available in the market. I spent a lot of time looking for the sony/nec/optiarc/liteon/benq but could not find any. Even our reputed dealers could not help out much in this as SATA is the way to go, and IDE demand is very low.

Get a LG IDE DVDRW @ 1000 approx and be done with it.

Get an LG one

the drive itself is very good even companies like HP use LG drives in their PC's

also by personal experience the service of LG is superb

once a power failure interrupted the firmware update and my drive stopped working

the guys at the service center got it repaired in a week

LG GH22NP20 IDE for 1.1k

This is the only good DVD-RW available today.

now these days don't seek for quality ONLY PLEXTOR used to makes performance optical drives but now it uses lite-on oem.

When you want to verify on a laptop, if the drive is marked as HL-DT-ST it means Hitachi-LG-Data-Storage.

LG optical drives identify themselves this way.

Just because u have LiteOn does mean it is good. In IDE LG was best AFAIK, stay away from LiteOn and Samsung.

I am from mumbai

Yes it is true

have checked a lot of new HP and compaq PCs all have the drives model no marked with HL-DT-ST that essentially means Hitachi LG Data Storage which is definetely a LG drive as i myself have got one LG drive

As for Lite-on , i have seen them in IBM, Lenove PCs and also compaq PCs some years back.

@ OP : go for LG

get your hands on benq 1640 or 1650 if it's available...it's a legendary drive

Production stopped waaaaaaay back. Anything you get now would be usually abused and at end of working life or totally modded off :P
