Hi all,

Please suggest me quality IEMs around 5k.
My thoughts were on Head Direct Re-ZER0. Can buy even RE-262 if can find in Bangalore.
Sunrise X-cape V1 - How r these? Heard its good.
Brainwaz M3. But i think RE-ZERO is better.

Please give ur suggestions. But the most important consideration is that I should be able to buy it either from Bangalore or Online from good shops. Please dont suggest LYNX-INDIA as i heard they do too much LOCHAAAAAAAA at delivery.

Also, i have galaxy s2. how will they sound on S2??

XCape v1 has been discontinued, so you cannot buy it. Even then, Sunrise Audio's build quality is not very good as there have been numerous complaints of late. I like it better than RE0 and RE-ZERO though!

RE-ZERO is indeed better, but M3 and RE-ZERO are different types of IEMs. M3 is more on the 'musical' side with concentration on mids. RE-ZERO is balanced with a tilt towards treble. Both do not have great quantity of bass. RE-262 for a little more is much better, but it's signature is very mid centric (more vocal centric) that it may not be appreciated by everybody.

I have no idea about S2 or other Galaxy devices.

Hi,

I have got the RE-262 and a M3 currently with me , will use it with S2 with and without a amp and give you my inputs .(Fiio E6 will be used as the amp).

P.S: Am not an audiophile so my views may not match with the rest :).

Thanks a lot. hope i will make it clear which one i should buy. also, can u plz tell from where did u purchase these 2 IEM

Hi,

Both of these can be had from MP4nation . I purchased both frm faheem (market deal) .

I used Fiio E6 along with S2 and a RE-262 and though results were not as good as the Clip+ , the SQ was still very good , i tried listening to Bandeh from Black Friday because it has lot of vocals , guitar etc , the RE-262 just mesmerised me when i played with the Clip+ and E6 , on S2 the same song did not mesmerise me but certainly was enjoyable . Then i tried few bass songs and RE-262 pumped out enough bass to satisfy more or less slightly more than m3 .

Overall i would say the major difference between M3 and RE-262 is the way the mids are pronounced in the RE-262 just blows you away , you feel completely taken away from the world and because of the soundstage of RE-262 , the Vocals take the midstage and the music(drums ,guitar etc) just surrond the vocals in a beautiful manner , the M3 despite having the detailing pretty good falls back slighltly on the soundstage side .

If i missed anything or you need info on something particular you can ask me :) , will try to answer it.

Thanks a lot for the reply. Thank you thank you so much. So, now i will go with RE-262. But, i could NOT find it on MP4nation. and whose faheem ?? am new here. please let me know

Faheem is not a dealer he is a member over here , i bought both M3 and RE-262 from him , ofcourse not at the same time :). I think you can PM esanthosh/faheem (just go thru some pages over here in audio section you will be able to find both of them) for checking availability of RE-262 in online stores.

Thanks, also can you tell me how much difference you find in SQ of S2 and Clip+. As i hav no plans to buy any music player, buying a costly earphone which cannot be enjoyable to most on S2 is Damn stupid, Right? Also, my HP laptop has Beats sound system. Will it be any better that S2 or comparable to CLIP+. I really dont know anything abt CLIP+.

While I cannot say anything for sure without hearing S2 and Clip+ side by side, I'd say Clip+ is neutral and has low output impedance. It can go well with all the IEMs except those which require more power to shine (RE1, RE0, PFE, RE262 and so on). That is where you need an external amplifier.

This low OI may seem like a trivial technical thing as no manufacturer publishes it and most, if not nearly all buyers of the player do not know or care about it. But with IEMs, it assumes more importance since high OI alters the signature of the IEM vastly. The result of low OI is that all IEMs, irrespective of their impedance (RE262 has 150 ohm, M3 is 20 ohms) or driver type (dynamic, BA) would be consistent in performance with Clip+ i.e., IEM's frequency response comes out unaltered by Clip+.

S2 has phenomenally high output impedance. To quote from Anadtech's review
[h=3]High output impedance[/h] One characteristic of Galaxy S II's headphone driver is its relatively high impedance: higher than competitor chips. Power efficiency diminishes when the output impedance grow: energy lost in heat. This is why Yamaha’s choice of design is surprising.
I measured mine at 49 Ω.
A notable side effect of this characteristic is that the headphone output becomes less loud with low impedance cans.
Output impedance doesn’t have much effect on 300 Ω gear, but on common 16 Ω earphones:

  • Gain is lowered, hiss level is reduced: nice bonus
  • Frequency response shift: less bass, more highs. Okay if the tiny speakers was too bassy, terrible if the headphones were bright already.
As a result, Galaxy S II might play well with some equipment but also reveal the worst side of other with harsh and aggressive rendering.
This output impedance is why opinions about Galaxy S II audio are so contradictory in forums: experience can vastly differ depending on your choice of headphones.

The last line is very important. Unless somebody has tried a certain IEM / headphone with S2, it's hard to say how it will sound with it. With Clip+, it's easier to say. Hope I have not bored the hell out of you :ashamed:

I could find a noticeable SQ difference between M3 and RE-262 in the S2 , but paying extra 2-3k for RE-262 might not be justified if S2 is your only source . Yeah the S2 were able to drive the RE-262 to higher volumes then my Clip+ , but overall SQ wise i would say Clip+ is much better.

Hows Klipsch S4i. Any comparison to RE-262, M3 or RE-ZERO?
i need an IEM(5-7k budget) for my galaxy S2 with mic (preferable but not compulsory)

My vote for S4i, though haven't heard REs, M3, if you do casual listening with songs mostly transferred download with least botheration for the quality, go for it! you might fell in love, otherwise if you are high quality listener (:@ audiophile!) S4i is hit or miss!

Another option could be to get the mic version of something like Meelectronics cc51.
