Suggest Best power backup medium just for Airtel Modem ?

I posted one topic long time back on backup of Airtel model by taking power from USB port. I tried my best to join cables by drawing power from USB port of laptop & provide backup to Airtel 220BX modem.

Sadly didnt work out as I am not electronics geek.

Can anyone suggest any other alternative ? If someone is using modem by taking power from USB port, please share the correct method.

I don't want to spend 10000 Rs on full inverter, Are there any mini inverters available ?
 
I was given a usb power cable instead of a power adapter for my 220 bx modem by the airtel engineer when i got my modem changed few months ago. He said they have started giving usb power cables because the power adapters dont last long due to voltage fluctuations.
 
Refer your modem's DC adapter and post the output ratings of the voltage and amperage. :)

The USB out from a PC supplies +5V at 100mA IINW. If it has a slightly higher amperage rating with the same voltage specs, you can use a Y cable and make a ghetto power supply. It all depends on whether you have a 5V input for your modem.

Bhai, If i would have known all these , I would have been Chip designer in Intel or working with NASA :P

I just want to know where can I get this in Bangalore.. Is there anyone who can ship the same to me ? Damn.. fed up of power cuts.
 
Could you at least take a look at the power adapter of your Airtel cable modem and post what is the output rating? :)

At least that isn't rocket science?

Bang there you go! :D

Make one by chopping off the wire from the existing adapter and any spare USB cable lying around. Connect the terminals as per this figure - link.

Pin 1 marked '+' is the +5v terminal and the one at the other end marked '-' is the GND. Figure out what terminal is positive and what is negative from the modem/adapter and connect it accordingly and you are SET! :)

OR at least post snaps of the adapter specs' sticker and the modem back which shows the connectors.

If the modem doesn't power on, try a similar USB cable in parallel which would essentially supply the same voltage but the amperage is increased. :D
 
Uhhh

Will it blast modem :P ?? Dont wana mess with it then.

I am thinking of taking small UPS which can supply power to modem as well media player for full night download.. frequent power cuts have too much of integrity check in torrent.
 
Have decided to take up UPS only due to this requirement.

Backup Airtel modem whenever power goes.

Backup Media player + HDD setup (external) for night downloads whenever power goes.

Had APC UPS which used to make blaring noise when power goes due to its beeps. not sure even if new APC has same problem.

Can anyone suggest a good UPS for this requirement.
 
I think if you've got just 1 modem plugged into the ups, it would shut down automatically due to there being no load. You'd have to mod the ups so that it stays on.
Any ups will do..just get one which lets you monitor it from your computer thru a usb cable so that you can turn the beeping off.
 
Oh, Dont want to open APC UPS & Mod stuff.

Any other way to backup Airtel modem ?

Any one using USB Cable to power up Airtel modem from USB port ?
 
NO solution till now.. Looking for Portable UPS kind of thing as need to power Airtel Modem as well Asus N 13 U.

I guess Laptop USB will not be able to power both devices.

Can anyone suggest such small UPS in market Or give good solution ?
