Hey guys,

A friend of mine wants good headphones & his budget is 3500 bucks.I suggested him Koss PortaPro & Beyerdynamic DT231 Pro.Are there any better ones out there ? Should be non-IEMs & will be driven through a laptop.Planning to buy a Fiio in the future. Will be used for primarily for music & secondarily for movies & gaming. Please pour in your inputs. :hap2:

Hi,
They problem is that at a certain price point, the better models are not available. The sennheiser models you mentioned just dont cut it. The better ones like pro HD 280 etc start at 6k onwards. So you are really stuck at this price point. The grado 60 is pretty good, but grado 80 which are even better,,,,wont work well without a headphone amp. So there you are, the amp will cost you more than that headphone. And, I haven't been able to find a dealer for grado here in india. Sony seems your best bet. Sony is mostly good throughout the range. Again, I wasnt able to find a dealer who had stocks for all models. Lots of options for inear models, but I dont like inear. Not comfortable for long listening. So, then, at this range you have to listen to evaluate before buying.

Cheers

^ Second that. If not KMD , you can directly order the JVCs from Amazon. The Philips are really good if you can power them up properly , they are very power hungry and need good amp to shine :).

philips shp 8900 but need very powerfull amp, very natural sound, in the spec it is written impedence is 32ohms I think it has around 150 ohms.
