Planning to buy HD-DVD player from US.

I need a good VFM one. Please suggest something around 150$.

I just need bare min player to play HD discs. I dont have a full HDTV...Only HD Ready Panasonic plasma.

If possible please provide link....

Would an XBOX 360 suffice. How can I use it to play HD discs? I hate my nooby self :ashamed:

Thanks

Ok, so I will consider that. Btw Toshiba says: Allow 8-10 weeks to process DVD requests...So that offer is useless for me...
Repped.

if u can buy it off ebay.com they have a few new ones going for around 160$
hd-dvd player, Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD Player, DVD Home Theater items on eBay.com

How is this
Newegg.com - Open Box: TOSHIBA HD-A1 HD DVD Player

^ Hook your PC up to your shiny new plasma with a HDMI cable, download some HD-DVD / Blu-Ray rips (or plead some very *ahem* 'helpful') members here who can ship you some DVD's, voila!

I'm just curios as to why you aren't taking my suggestion ;)

Can I download lossless HD videos and play it from my laptop using TV as display.

I though most downloadable videos are compressed rips...

Also I am going to get few HD-DVDs as gifts...can I just copy it to the HD of the lappy and play...?

^ Yup absolutely! HD is a lossless format basically, there's nothing as "Compressed HD".

It'll work from your laptop as long as you have DVI or HDMI output, S-Video or Analog will not give you more than a 720p resolution.

ok....Il have to look into it then :)

My lappy has X1700 with builtin HDCP/HDMI if im not mistaken...

buddy i dont think ud be able to do this.. leave alone copy.. u would not even be able to read hd dvd's unless u have an hd drive on ur lappy.. so do u??
and also if u download true lossless hd videos wont the size be exorbitant.. an wont it take like forever to download here in india?? cause hd dvd's if im correct are like 25 an 50 gigs.. man ur gonna need a lotta hdd space on ur laptop to dwnld an store thm.. leave alone the days and days it would take to dwld them..

Yes...thats what I was thinking too...I cant read discs...

Also downloading from home wouldnt be possible...

Have an 8MBPS connection at work and full access...but then I cant take these files back home regularly..:(

yeah.. but its still $500..(for 80 gigs) and $400 (for 40 gigs i think).. still a lil expensiv but if u plan to ever game then i think its better buying the ps3 tan ta hd dvd player (for about $200)

also correct me if im wrong but i read somewhere that hd dvds are not always 1080p but blurays always are 1080p.. is this true??

Actually... it sounds about right ... but I'm not absolutely sure...

It is expensive, and if it's not in the budget, I totally know how that goes... but if it is...

All I can say is.... :D

Picture quality is awesome, sound out via HDMI...... so 5.1 digital, Can play whole mp3 collection from computer via DNLA network server, and soon should be able to play divx ... which means I can now play my whole divx movie collection over DNLA server too (this means through windows media server)(DIVX capability is going to be in an upcoming firmware update, this is cool because not many DIVX players I know of can output HD) ... oh ... and play games too IMHO worth every penny........oh yeah almost forgot.. I have a basic working version Linux on there too...

So if it's in the budget... go for it :)
