Finally got my Pan Card done . now i am going to open a bank account

would like suggestions from you all for the same as to which bank to use

I was thinking of going with SBI

I would want a atm-cum-debit card and would also like to do some online purchases fo domain and web-hosting.
would this card be acceptable there??? or would internet banking be useful there??

Rather than SBI, would suggest Indian Bank as a good alternative if you are looking at nationalised banks.

Else go with ICICI/HDFC.

Any bank but ICICI. Go for SBI or Nationalized which works as an address proof too.

+1, for internet banking & various online transactions you can't beat

1) ICICI &

2) HDFC

I will suggest ICICI or HDFC or maybe IDBI. They have good online service, Customer Care is good, grievance solving is nice. Plus there are less procedural delays.

i am not sure but icici has been a PITA for my sisters account.

have no idea about SBI in online banking but seems decent.

would like to hear about HDFC

I'll suggest SBI, ya they can be slow than other banks but one thing for sure is your hard earned money will never be cheated. Well, not in that sense, but you'll never get any hidden charges from SBI, also min. QAB is another more advantage.

SBI Netbanking works fine, it's been around 2 years, I'm using SBI and I'm satisfied.

You can also check Axis, I've a salary A/c at Axis too, and their service is also good.

Won't suggest ICICI, as many of my friends get cheated and also many hidden charges which won't get reveal if you miss those small texts in hurry.

SBI has very decent online banking. Just make sure to ask them for a VISA debit card because they give a MAESTRO one by default.

Go for SBI only if you can afford to go to the branch for half the things you want to do. If you want good online banking experience, better go with other options like HSBC/HDFC.

Best would be to get two accounts, one in a nationalized bank like SBI and another in bank with good online banking experience.

For me best online banking was HSBC. I have a HDFC salary account as well, but I would say its useless if you find yourself needing to transfer money online to people at short notices. HFDC like many other banks has a system where you have to register the beneficiary's name and wait 24 hours before you can make a transfer.

How about IDBI Bank ?

Heard that they have revamped their online portal and now its very smooth. If someone using their services, please update.

Also tell me what is the process of doing third party transfer in it, do we need to wait like in HDFC bank or it can be done instantly?

Well, now all the debit cards have been transformed to VISA / Master Card

Got a sbi account recently and the atm/debit card they gave me is maestro.. i never knew sbi provides any card other than this

sbi online banking is actualy prettry good. but if you want do a short notice neft/rtgs you will be disappointed, they take 16 hrs to add the beneficiary to your account. but i am quite satisfied with that.

can i transfer my maestro to visa/master ?

Another thing sbi has min balance amount of 1000 rs. what about private banks like hdfc/fsbc/icici ?

Now generally all private banks require AQB (Average Quarterly Balance) of Rs 10000.

opened my first account with idbi .. started with minimum balance of rs 5000.. happy with their services :)

What's their process of third party transfer ? Registration of payee required ?

well thanks guys but i dont think i can opt for icici/hdfc as i dont want to start with a AQB of 10000.

then it seems SBI is the way to go.
