I dont know what problems people are facing here with ICICI. I have been with them for the last 3 years and not one issue. I have recently opened an account in Axis and i am amazed with their service so far. On the other hand SBI is freakin slow in their office.

EDIT: cut it all, just read OP has a limit.

to start with get yourself a SBI Account and activate your netbanking once you get a hold of your debit-Atm card. The minimum AQB is 1000/- with cheque book else 500/-.
Also SBI has gone even one step ahead and are in the process of issuing a VISA card now a days. You have to file an application separately for this.
Also the annual charges and other facilities are charged nominally.

Now if you wish to have another account too, start of with a private bank, now upfront AQB ranges from 2500 for semi urban to 10000 for an urban account. Though there is a whistle blower like this at most times due to heavy competition most promises are lived upto. Other Extra charges are little to on the higher note.

So its wise to start of with SBI and later add a private bank after YOU KINDLY PATIENTLY READ THE FINE PRINT! Unless its a salary account please do read the FINE PRINT ESPECIALLY FOR ICICI.

Personal Choice at the moment; SBI, HDFC

OK I found out sbi gold master or visa debit card. what is the extra advantages i can enjoy witth this card ?

^ if you are aware that they already used to do this under the Yuva Account.. again you got to file for a separate application.

Recently when i walked into the bank, a service exec told me that i could have a shift of my card from Mastero to a Visa Card saying i have to surrender the the old card else annual charges are applicable for both. also a minimum AQB of 1000/- has to be maintained. This was already applicable in Chennai, I dont know about the other cities, wait for others to respond.

so i cannot keep both ? i can do that. maestro requires min 1000, visa requires same ?

IDBI allows unlimited free usage of any banks ATM, free NEFT /RTGS transactions. Debit card is free no annual charges.

neft/rtgs is free in sbi too, debit has some 20/50 rs charges annually, but atm usage in other banks cost money i guess. thats a downer for me,:(

You can apply for Visa Debit card for some fee. I think it is 99 a year or something like that . I got this confirmed some time back so you can check.

1K minimum balance is ok . Private banks are 5K or more generally.
