Hi!

I got my nzxt tempest today. I was installing my cheap chinese psu but it so happens that the length of the wires aren't enough to reach the mother board and the cpu power supply pins. (Since the psu has to be bottom mounted)

Now I'm left making a seriously rediculous and dangerous makeshift way to fix the psu.

I need a decent psu that has enough power to run a c2d, intel mobo, a gfx card that doesn't need an additional power(but want one on an upgrade later),one sata and one ide hard disk, 2 optical drives, and 6 fans in total. Please advice!

I'm off to sp road tmrw. My budget is 3.5 max.

Edit: Need bottom mountable psu such that the length of wires are long enough to reach the req pins

Choose according to your budget. Here is a list

Corsair VX450(~4k) > Seasonic 430(~3.8k) > Cooler Master Real Power Pro (~3.6k) > Corsair CX400(~3.2k) > Seasonic 380 (~3k)

VX450 will be the safest buy.

VX450 for this reason in red OR seasonic 380 wud also be great!

If i buy a psu without that gfx card power option, will i get a 4 pin molex to the gfx power converter or something? I just want the power cords long enough to reach the mobo terminals! That'll do. How long is the 24 pin and 4 pin power cords? (the two wires that fix on to the mobo) Any rough idea?

Is anyone using a bottom mountable case where in this problem of mine hasn't occurred?

Vx450 is available in golccha/ankit right?

how much did u get tempest for? and from where?

Costed it $99 on newegg. Asked my cousin in NY to re-route it for me :) Its super heavy and currently super noisy (without the 2 side panels) I'll put some pics on the show off section once i'm done fixing everything and tidying my room!

VX450 is available everywhere and has very long cables. I have a bijli case and had to bundle cables in the 5.5" bays, they are that much long.

Speaking of warranty, how much is it for both those psu? And I'm using APC 500va BB0730006180 (ES500) as my ups. Is it compatible with the vx450. I've heard that certain psu need pure sine waves

It might work, it might not work. Generally works at lower load but not at higher load. corsair vx450 has active PFC and the best alternative would be to go with a pure sinewave ups. That would be costlier though. Generally going with a higher rated apc Back UPS will do with a buzzing sound from the psu.

:huh:So there is a 50% chance that it won't work with my ups...which I'm gambling with. I don't do much gaming and I just want it to stay alive long enough to make a safe hibernate/shutdown. All i have is nVidia 8400GS, a couple of optical drives, 2 HDDs and 6 fans plus a CM hyper n520. Um..Is that too much load?

Corsair 400cx (3 yrs warranty)- for future mainstream upgrade ( eg. 4850,GTS series) ( first hand experience , using it right now)
Corsair vx450(5 years warranty) - for future highend upgrade (4890,X2 series, lots of OC etc)

Read this article and you will exactly know what do you need as per your future upgrade and requirement. don't go overboard and spend unnecessarily :hap2: good luck

I'm leaning towards vx450. Planning on using it for the next 4 years at least along with a possible upgrade once in awhile. I'm having a c2d 2.66GHz and intel DG33FB which will see me through for at least 1yr+ minimum.

I am running on APC 500 i.e. your model. No problem so far. But a 650 will be better and safe. See my signature for rig detail.

Yup! I just bought and installed the vx450. Its awesome! And my ups is able to handle it. Although it does look strained...

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! :)

^^ Another one falling for the Watts :P

VX450 = 80+ Standard
Seasonic = 80+ Bronze and offers more power than VX450 with the same input.

Not to mention VX450 is just a fork of Seasonic.
