Graphic Cards Suggest PSU that will feed HD 5970 rig

Re: hd 5970 power supply?

Something in the lines of the Corsair TX750, HX750, Coolermaster Real Power 700, Antec Earthwatts 750, Seasonic M12D 850 and so forth. The power supply needs a minimum of 50A on the +12v rails.

Just curious but how does the rest of the system specs go? :)

yup second that, dint know the HX750 was released?...just being modular is the difference I guess?!

Re: hd 5970 power supply?

Dont know which PSU will provide the best bang for the buck but my friend got this card last week and he is using this card with a Tagan 800W power supply. Dont know the exact model number of the PSU though.

i have 4gb ram q8200 cpu and 650 watt psu and a gts250 green

Re: hd 5970 power supply?

Maximum the HD5970 will pull, should be 300W. So a 650W should be nice, with overhead baked in.

Re: hd 5970 power supply?

dOm1naTOr is right 650W PSU is enough for a 5970..
So,get a Corsair TX650 for ~7k.
but if you want something modular then go for Corsair HX620 for ~7.8k

Re: hd 5970 power supply?

^The HX620 is EOL - the HX650 has replaced it.

Btw when you guys suggest a power supply, none of you looks for a headroom considering future upgrades one might do? I mean one need not necessarily upgrade his power supply each time he does a major overhaul for his system so investing in a good supply now makes sense, doesn't it?

Thats true, but on most of the reviews with 5970 with a Core i7 coupled with other good hardwares doesnt cross even bare 400W total power consumption. Even if it reaches 500~550 in some extreme exceptional cases, it not a problem at all.

On the other hand, detailed reviews on hardware secret reveals that a good PSU like an HX 620 can be loaded way more than rated, like even 700~750W without much straining the PSU. Or atleast it can give 620W continuous without any strain. Why invest on a PSU like 850W, which is more than double than the required.

Because almost all power supplies work at their efficient best when they're loaded to 50% of the rated output of the power supply.

Re: hd 5970 power supply?

OP : If u plan on goin for crossfire in near future thn Corsair HX850/1000 or else Corsair TX 650 wud be more thn sufficient :D
