Any Stephen King fans here? What are his best novels? I know Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile are among them, what else?

try jeffrey archer novels. usually drama filled, and a few are suspense filled too (like the 11th commandment). michael crichton is recommended too..

If you like action/suspense then try reading the ones by Alistair MacLean (Alistair MacLean - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).
I started reading them during school, and I am hooked still.
Note, MacLean stories does not have a romantic(sex) sub-plot anywhere. Only thrill and action.

IF you have just started reading then you can also go for Shantaram.
Good story, and it has "everything", a real page-turner.

Happy Reading! :)

yea some maclean books are pretty good. they're mostly set at sea because he was a sailor. try bear island, one of his more famous books (apart from the navarone series)

I have read some rave reviews about "Life of Pi", is it really that good? As far as the Non fiction is considered, how is "Jinnah" the controversial book by jaswant singh?

Also want to read "Shantaram", is it any good?

Please recommend me books from Indian authors. Preferably stories set around college life.

Keep adding guys, this is certainly helpful. :)

life of pi is highly recommended, something that will be difficult/ impossible to capture in a movie..it isnt boring like the other acclaimed books (salman rusdie and likes)

among indian authors there is R. K. Narayan...easy read ...try swami and friends, english teacher

white tiger already suggested is good

yes a fan since 8 th grade:ashamed: .... but his stories mostly have extreme bits of supernatuaral elements .... so getting to like him might not be that easy..

you can try:

The Shining...boring, slow till last 150 pages or so...but the last 150 pages makes it really worth ..recommended

Firestarter...

The Dark Half ...one of the better paced ones

he Green Mile...recommended only if you didnt see the movie...better than movie as well

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon....mushy story, but short....recommended as it has no/less supernatural stuff

Black House..recomm

^Actually, The Green mile is one of my favorite movies. I think its worth buying the book since i am a big fan of the movie.

I googled Stephen King and came to know that "The Stand" is one if his best works. Also the skeleton crew was recommended. I hope his books are genuinly scary, I loved reading the Goosebump series when I was a kid.

Thanks for the other recommendations guys.

Any good book on agnosticism ? I googled it and found people recommending "Is God a Delusion?" but its price is 1300 bucks, over my budget.

Also any good books on Vampires or werewolves other than Dracula and the Twilight saga?

Some of the novels i would recommend are,

Frederick Forsyth:

Day of the Jackal
The Odessa File
The Dogs of War
Avenger
The Afghan ( it is the latest one i think)

Havent read Fist of god though...

Alistair Mclean...(the author whose books inspired me to read more books :))
Navarone series
Where eagles dare
bear island
dark crusader
Golden rendezvous
Ice station zebra

Alistair mclean books are like indian movies focuses mainly on a main Hero character but unlike movies has a very good plot. :ohyeah:

P.G.Wodehouse: (Oh Boy)
All the jeeves Series (Awesome series)

the jeeves series of books belongs to comedy genre and is based on events happening in early 19th century english noble family..trust me pretty good

Also has written some short stories which are ok..

Jeffery archer:
Not a penny more, Not a penny less (great book with great plot,Nuff said)
Honour among thieves
Kane and abel
Shall we tell the president

his short story collections are also pretty good...dont miss them.

Colin Forbes
Most of his stories are based on a british secret service , some have good plot
The Greek Key
The Janus Man
Shockwave
And lots more .. Google it :bleh:

Many have govenment conspiracies etc with james bond like ending...one novel, By stealth, i think even has a plot where china tries to take over the world  (though i think it is already happening:cursing: )

Finally there is ol' Sydney sheldon....

So take your pick...
Peace~

the stand and the dark series are ones that are most loved by fans...however i havent read both ...just started dark series...

never liked his short stories and so didnt love skeleton crew

salem's lot by stephen king is about vampire ... its the book which depicted ghost towns being created by vampires (unlike bram stokers version ) which inspired many vampire stories to be on similar theme..good book too
