^ Nice list. To add little more

Action/Thriller

Chaser - This one is awesome

Shiri

Comedy

My boss my hero

My boss my teacher

Got few more, need to look into my collection.

If you do want to watch "Two Guys" watch it on World Movies. The subtitles found online are no match for the one used by World Movies. I remember seeing a couple of UTV Movies DVDs like - A Tale of Two Sisters etc., in Landmark but no copies of this movie.

Any way I would suggest:
A Better Tomorrow (Avoid 2nd and 3rd part just watch the 1st movie)
Hard Boiled
Time And Tide
Eye In The Sky
Hero
My Girl (Thai)
Election
Election & Triad Election
The Yakuza Papers
From Beijing With Love
God Of Cookery
The Tricky Master
City On Fire
The Killer
The Beast Stalker
Invisible Target
Versus (Jap)

Korean : Hot for teacher
Heh, this reminded me of a track by Van Halen.

Otherwise am surprised to see so many fans of Korean movies in an Indian forum :O

Presumably none of you speaks any so how did this come about

I can understand a good story has universal appeal but isn't this all a tad off the beaten track.

^^ No reason why, but after I watched a couple of Korean films that was suggested to me in another forum a couple of years back, I've become a big fan. And World Movies made me a fan of French movies.

Maybe if i rephrase as why Korean over other foreign languages ?

Does access play the bigger role here. Because more members have plumped for them than any other foreign language in this thread.

You would be surprised to discover how good these korean movies are.

Its far from the crap the hollywood churns out these days.

In-fact my grouping of these korean movies is rather unfair since korean movies don't succumb to the usual defined 'genre' film making.

Anyways, French Movies :

Leon, the professional

Tais-Toi

Le Placard

The Dinner Game

The valet

La chevre

Angel-A

Asterix & Obelix- Mission Cleopatra

Hors de Prix aka Priceless

Amelie

Le grand Seduction

L'Auberge Espagnole

Le Grand Blond

Le Sauvage

Malena

Un Baiser Sil Vous Plait

Prete Moi Ta Main

Manon des sources

Jean de florrette

OSS 117 movies

Pan's labyrinth (spanish actually)

Monsieur Gangster

Bienvenue Chez Les Chtis

There has been a big resurgence in their movies in the last decade from both critically acclaimed directors as well as entertaining masala flicks and romcoms. And from what I can tell they are popular the world over; not just here.

I've watched only a few films here and there. Many I was about to recommend have already been recommended.

I like many films of Kurosawa. I'll make a very short list here (instead of naming all 10-12 films I like)

The Hidden Fortress - Inspiration for Star Wars
Yojimbo - Re-made into "Fistful of Dollars" by Sergio Leone. But, Toshiro Mifune is special!
High And Low - A thriller

I'd say pick any film with Kurosawa - Toshiro Mifune combination. Some are Classics, few are very good, others - decent to good (except perhaps "The Lower Depths", which I did not like too much).

The Lives of Others- Must watch
Pan's Laybrinth- German again and I suggest make this the 1st muvi u watch, its so intricate.... and awesome

german, earlier posted in a "french" list. i though pan's labyrinth was spanish language? or was just the director spanish?

Keep it coming guys.. :) Already have enough on the to-be-watched list to keep me entertained for the next 3 to 4 months, but greedy for more. :P

Wings of Desire (Wim Wenders). Oh man what a movie. It's in german and it's the non-hollywoodised version of the campy and much more popular City Of Angels.

I also recommend Talk to Her, Live Flesh, All About My Mother, and for that matter any other Pedro Almodovar movie.

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

I also recommend The White Ribbon. Another German flick that won the Gold Palm award at the 2009 Canne's Film Festival.

The Girl with Dragon Tattoo (Swedish)

City of God (Portuguese)

Amelie (French)

7 Samurai (Japanese)

Run Lola Run (German)

My Sassy Girl (Korean)

Shiri (Korean)

The Lives of Others (German)

Infernal Affairs (Chinese)

Oldboy (Korean)

No Man's Land (Bosnian)

Pan's Labyrinth (Spanish)

District B13 (French)

Il Mare (Korean)
