Hi Guys

I am looking for a all in one video editing software that will allow me to edit
video files and save the edited files in that same format without re encoding.

I mean the edited video should use direct stream copying not re encoding the split files.

Looking to work on following files.

SPLIT and JOIN using a time line and a GUI showing the video.

Video Formats: VCD/DVD/HD

Video Codecs: Xvid/Divx/x264/H.264AVC/WMV/Real Media/VOB etc...

Audio Codecs: MP3/AAC/AC3/Real Audio etc..

Containers: AVI/MKV/MPG/MP4/WMV etc...

Real Video and Audio is not a main concern.

Did you ever try VirtuaDub? It seems quite popular, although I am unsure whether It will have all the features you're looking for. for the other features, have a look here and see what you can find.

Video Codecs: Xvid/Divx/x264/H.264AVC/WMV/Real Media/VOB etc...

Thease are the delivery codecs. You cant get good quality with them like the internal codecs by Avid, Canopus, Matrox, MainConcept, Morgan, Blackmagic, Cineform etc..

Convert them to uncompressed or any internal Codec on AVI/QT container. Edit them, render your effects. Then convert back to your delivery codec.

If you are NOTHING TO deal with quality, Yes you need to try different editors for each codec (like Womble for MPEG, Premiere for WMV) . All in one is not yet available as for as I know...

nice reply there
Wow! For the first time, I got a kind reply in TE. (??? check all my posts and you will understand!!!)

Procedure: What's your source? Where you get your footage? If you are shooting your shots, you are responsible for the quality. If you are downloading/ripping your footage, nothing to worry about the procedures, you can play a lot. Check my site Fun Photos Videos.com | High Definition Videos, HQ Photos & MP3 Audios for Fun - Updated Daily for examples...Nothing is impossible - Even SD to HD, Stereo to 5.1, YUV to RGB!

Softwares: I prefer Avid MC, but its not easy as. Start with Premiere...

Will also check out Avid MC.

MediaComposer is not a game, Try to learn Xpress Pro first, then you can easily migrate to MC. For personal use, I prefer Premeire CS3. (but dead slow in HD edit). Use Avid for HD Edit.
edit how to get these screenshots , trying to figure out from a long time.

Media Player Classic

if im not mistaken, exporting a movie from Final Cut as "self contained" but NOT choosing the option of recompressing all frames does a direct stream copy as long as your source files and export settings match.

i'm guessing there are similar options in other PC based editing softwares. however, i could be wrong about the whole thing since i've never really had the need for direct stream copies when cutting in Final Cut.

also, most editing softwares have trouble working with codecs like Xvid, DivX etc. they suck for editing.

That feature was AVID's trademark and copied(???) in FCP from AVID. But premiere won't support that feature.

I hope CS3 will support Xvid.

^well it's actually a Quicktime option from what i remember and could have existed in QT Pro long before Final Cut came into existence.

Quicktime option from what i remember

Its' Quicktime Reference.

But AVID supports native Quicktime/AVI export(only with AVID Codecs) once rendered(or with realtime effects on Mojo/Aderline) without recoding!!!

QT Pro long before Final Cut came into existence

MAC OFFICIALLY supported 'AVID' only before the launch of FCP. Once Avid launches the PC version, Mac developed FCP. (its a great flop!!!The next version of FCP is a huge hit, because of (yes, the same 'WINDOWS' story...)

no i'm not talking about QT reference files. when you choose the "make self contained" option, FCP doesn't export reference files. iirc, it exports an mov without re-encoding. anyway i'll check it again at work tomorrow to make sure.
