Storage Solutions suggestion for external USB case for DVD-ROM IDE drive

please suggest a decent looking/performing external USB case for my dvd-rom drive (IDE).

what will be the cost ?

BTW what is the point/jack for, placed next to the USB jack ??? is it the audio output jack !!!

And just out of curiosity. r there any other options available ??? thanks mate.

Dont know about current prices - ask Prime ABGB.

YUP that hole says Audio - but I dont rememeber attaching any Audio cables inside thre case <SHRUG>

I dont buy any other brand of external cases as I have burnt my fingers on more then one occasion with BAD cheap external cases - and Vantec is a know respected brand and I think it is worth the extra money. Specially since I use these cases to store important (to me) data.
 
You can also check out Zippys 5.25'' casing also, its quite similar to Vantec in features like active cooling, no seprate power adaptor, etc...
I picked up one for 650Rs. about 2 months back for my DVD-Writer, and it is working fine, till now...
 
for a DVD burner, get nothing else but the best casing (read Vantec) available unless you want to decorate your house with coasters all around
 
@ eazy: i sent emails to both nilesh and gulbir. Nilesh quoted 2019+10% + 100 (shipping charges), whereas gulbir quoted 2450. so now i have decided to go with nilesh's offer. he had asked me get my self registered on their website, which i tried but was not able to as the registration page was giving an error message - error sending email.

I have asked nilesh to suggest me an alternate for placing the order.

what do you say on the price? and how is apexenterprise?

Ther price seems to be about what I paid minus the shipping cost.

I have known Nilesh since 1985 (YUP no typo 1985 !! :ohyeah: ) - and he has always seemed to be a decent bloke to deal with.
 
A little OT but i don't get it... Why buy a external casing for 1900 odd when the burner itself is for 1700 odd... Buy and and put it in the second comp done... unless you wanna use it with a laptop or have more then 2 machines from where you write data... Even in that case a external HDD would be lot better then a external burner

Remember a external IDE Optical drive casing would require a data as well as a power chord and it is diffcult to move around with all that stuff... An external laptop HDD 80GB with casing would cost around 4K and would be much easier to carry and only requires a data chord...

OK, actually i have two writers. one cd and second one is a DVD combo. i have planned to sell my comp with the cd-writer only and am keeping the combo with me. and i am planning on a new laptop as i have space constraints and considering on my usage which is limited to just listening to music and watching DVD movies i have decided not go for a desktop. so i'll be needing the external case so that i can use my writer with it also i;ll be using it for making copies.

So thats the reason.

Hi, me too lookin for a budget solution as not enough bucks now.
So i wanted to know which DVD writer r u using in it, and whats the speed u r getting in it ?
Also what about the quality of the disks, are they affected by the quality of casing ?

Well i'm using BenQ DW1650 with it...speeds are okay, to give you a vague idea, i can burn a DVD in 6-8mins@16X, haven't noted the exact time..
Quality is also okay, the last time I scanned a DVD, i remember getting a 90+ quality score on MBI 16X DVD-R..
 
Reviving this very old thread.

My Laptop DVD writer has gone kaput, so I have 3 options

1. Spend 2500rs to get a HP/Panasonic DVD writer - 6 months warranty from laptopnrepair.com at nehru place

2. Splurge 3000+ on External DVD writer

3. Get a good DVD writer for 1100rs or something, and get external casing for around 600rs, and use that.

I am gravitating to option 3 because its cheaper than option 2, and more reliable than option 1

any tips on what to buy and where to buy in Nehru place please?
