Why Samsung?
If you want top of the line performance and budget no bar, go for OGeneral, Toshiba or Hitachi.
In the mid budget range go for Carrier.
At the low budget range go for Godrej.
In my opinion, the two brands I have suggested provide the best VFM in the mid and low segments. BTW, the Godrej machines are actually the same as Voltas at a considerably lower price.
There are still cheaper brands available like Electrolux, Koryo, Videocon, Kenstar, etc but I wouldn't recommend them.
Finally, choose a brand based on who provides the best service in your locality.
