One of my old system's D845GVSR Intel board died. The technician also said it can't be repaired.

The processor is Celeron 2.4 GHz.

I think it only supports IDE HDD. I recently (6 months ago) purchased an IDE disk.

What is the best replacement board to go for? Do I go for D845 again(it it is available in the market?) or go for a better board which is currently good which supports the processor above.

In that case, the modern board may not support IDE.

Please give me suggestions as to what to do?

Find out the cost of the 845 board. If its expensive as its might be a legacy board, ditch it and buy a Sempron + 740G/M2N68 combo. This should cost you around 4~4.5K. And it will have the IDE port, especially the M2N68 board. Get a cheap used DDR2 stick for 350~500 bucks from someone here on TE. If its DDR3, then 2GB used should be ~ 500 bucks.

Not sure if you would find a socket 478 board still available in the market. Better bet might be looking for a used board

@vivek.@bottle...Thanks...

The RAM was also changed recently DDR 400 Hynix 512 MB.

The proccy is also fine.

Is there a way to retain the same proccy, RAM and HDD and go for a modern MB?

@tmbsundar

u can find 845g boards but those are generic ones.it would be better to buy a new 760g(AM3) and sempron 140.

@vip. Thanks...

I did some searching and found a BioStar - P4MP900 VIA based board in Biostar website. Also I saw some 845 based boards in the Biostar site.

Also Gigabyte lists some models of 845 based boards.

Would you advise going for this.? Not sure if this available though. But P4MP900 is listed in the dealer's page.

As suggested by bottle look for second hand socket 478 board in market section, you will get it under 700-800 there. On second thought sell old component then buy cheapest AMD based DDR3 system, MSI/ASUS 68 MB+Kingston/Corsair 2GB DDR3+Sempron 145 CPU at total 2150+600+1800=4550/- The board has IDE HDD support .

Getting a new cheap ddr3 board/cpu is the best option , your system is really outdated ,other old components will keep failing & you will end up spending about the same as you would on a new cheap ddr3 combo.

Thats true, same thing happend with me. If you buy an older PC component there is a high chance of failure and you will end spending hugely because of availability issues. I suggest you invest in a AM2+ or Sempron setup with good onboard graphics.

Besides older PC component P4 is very slow compared to current standards, so its time to invest in new mobo+cpu.
