PC Peripherals Suggestion Requires:- P4- 1.7 GHz V/S 2.4 GHz Performance

Hello Friends,

This is my home machine, which I use for normal browsing & mail checking & some time for gaming by my nephew.

Is there any noticeable performance increase if I replaced my existing P4- 1.7GHz processor with P4- 2.4GHz processor?

Please suggest.

Browsing and 2d games? Not a lot.

If it were just the 1.7 Vs 2.4 GHz clock difference, then it wouldn't have mattered. Also for Browsing and basic word/excel etc it wont make a difference

However if i remember correctly, for the 2.4 GHZ the mobo's FSB and ram clocks were higher, which would make a 'slight' difference in the overall performace/responsiveness of the system. P4 1.7 had 400MHz fsb vs. 533 MHz, similarly 2.4 GHz proccy supported higher clock for Ram as well (333MHz as opposed to 266 for P4 1.7)

Gaming will be significant if you are talking of games which were released between 2002 and 2004.
