brand: any (no idea!! :P)
budget: as minimum as possible
proc: intel pentium m..(core proc needed??suggest)
memory: min 512 MB
screen: 14" preferable (or 15" also ok due to budget constraints..)
HDD: 60 GB
connectivity: WIFI, USB ports,
OS: XP ( can we install /format lappy HD's as we do in normal pc's???, if then pre loaded no need mayb, i guess it wil reduce cost)
accessories: DVD reader/writer combo??
usage: not for games; only normal usage for office and personal use and browsing.

add any other essential required for the same...
suggestions for links/laptop brands also needed..

put it to min ya.. with all the above conditions specified i dono how much will it cost minimum!!!! u guys help out na...do u think i can get the above within 30k??? (i dont think so.. so if possible suggest to expand the budget and the other options.. ..)

- thanks for the quick response.. but only compaq will come under the budget???

- and er.. i dono y i prefer intel.. so ruling out third... again Xp preloaded worth it??? also the memory cache 1/2MB make big difference???

Well within that budget, Compaq would be the best bet..Others possible would be a Celeron-based Acer..

If you don't mind the brands at all, then a look at Sahara, HCL maybe.. :)

not worth getting Preloaded XP for home use :P

HCL's a decent brand and a decent product. their pricing is awesome, but u'll have to find the right place to buy from ;) dealer prices needless to say are bloated :P

Typical Config 1 - Intel Pentium M 1.6 / 512MB / 15" / 60GB / Combo / Linux OS / carrybag / 1yr Wrnty - ~Rs.28.5k (nett)

Typical Config 2 - Intel Core Duo 1.73 / 512MB / 14" Widescreen / 60GB / Combo / Linux OS / carrybag / 1yr Wrnty - ~Rs.31.5k (nett)

If you can seriously get that config from HCL for that price..Just rush to the nearest HCL dealer and get it!!;)
A Core Duo proccy equipped notebook for less than 32K..Can't get better IMHO..

lol.. i still work for HCL.. but i only sell to ppl who are interested in HCL products :P

Please tell me what is that supposed to mean? I will seriously start thinking of my next laptop if I get the Core Duo notebook from HCL at that price. Can I get it even close to that price in Mumbai?

is ther any chance of prices being reduced if i wait more?
yes! laptop prices drop every 3-4 weeks.. and price drop is quite significant as well. In what i've seen in the last 4-5 months, laptop prices drop on an average about 800-1000 bucks a month ;)

How are refubrished laptops ?? They come pretty cheap. Anybody has used/heard about refubrished laptops ??
havent heard of any refurbished laptops. even if they are available, its unlikely they'll carry any warranty.
