jus wana get my hands on an electic guitar.:( :( :(
problem very small budget ..... around 5k :(

all the so called pro's at col as well as stupid shop vendors say one needs atleast 10k for a decent one.

problem is i know little about electrics :S exept unless i have in my hand for a while then i jus dont seem to let go :P...ie ill judge it purely on the basis of sound and feel not on build type mechanism etc thats all zuberish

wen it comes to acuostics i know em like old lovers :P
i need something jus for some time before i get settled (1yr at least ill finish my engg. by then ..hopefully:S ) .

id be playing floyd, metallica, scorpians n police ..bit of aerosmith too
(gilmour is my god)
so cn anyone suggest any model for around 5k (max 6.5) ,ill buy a small distortion pedal for around 1.5k also or shud i get an amp (was planing to connect it to my pc theres an old 10wt amp in coll too, which ill steal i guess :P )

the only thing in my head right now is echoes 11:41

ohk, @ 5k your best bet is to look for 2nd hand guitar n good condition, you can get some decent 2nd hand squier strat for that price.Or you can get a Java strat for ~ 6k but i am not sure of the quality of Java guitars !!!

Why would you need an electric when you have acoustics??? I don;t understand you new-fangled guys.

Anyway, you're pretty much in the same situation I was when starting on electrics. In the end I snagged an unbranded little guitar with a single humbucker and a very small body. Man, could that baby sing. Very bluesy, the combination of th fat humbucker and the small ash body did amazing things. It had a LOT of shop wear - I could see the bare wood peeping through on the 3rd fret under the fingerboard.

I bought it for 3.5K 'shop used', and kept her for four years. I still miss her.

Anyway, at that budget, you need to play a lot of guitars, so stop asking already and start trawling the streets for used and new stuff. You'll have a bit of an issue at first - I still think playing an electric is like fingering rubber bands on a clothesline, I'm much more comfortable with acoustics myself. Since I haven't put too much money into electrics, I'm OK with that.

Watch the balance of the instrument. If you play sitting down, stand up and strap it up. Too many times in cheap guitars the body is so much heavier than the neck that you have to use some hand control to keep the body in position. Not good for speed or accuracy. Try a lot of gits in your price range - I don't know what brands you can get in that budget but then again, I've not considered an electric in a long time.

2nd hand better anyday than el cheapo java.
for a new one.. u need around 10k...
ibanez, kramer will cost u around that much... or even the cheapest yamaha should be available for that budget...
c if u can get hold of obe of those from band member for 2nd hand.
stay away from guitars wid tremolo/whammy bar if u r in learning phase(requires frequent tunning)
avoid java as far as u can.

alternatively... if getting various effects n electronic sound is ur only concern...then u can opt for decent pickups for existing acoustic guitar(assuming u have one) n pick up amd guitar effects processor...

2nd hand...how to judge em?

i dont want all effects n electronic sounds i have a semi acoustics, matter of fact its not got a great action ,so no point getting pick ups for it.

"quality of Java guitars !!!"
ill see if i can find second hand squire ones ... right now localy one cud get givsons n "gbna" second hands for about 3-7k . shop keeper showed me a gbna model for 7k, . i thought he was over pricing it ,felt ok cudnt spend much time there so cant realy judge that:(
i actually have played a java strat (my friend bought one a month ago) the only draw back i found ( in the half an hour of play) was the fact that the fretboard was really soft ,i could leave nail marks ... thought that was my shortcoming ?

10k is very tough ill be selling one off my HDD off so i can get money for a crap amp . then ask my parents for 5k (and "stretch" it to 7k  (CC poor dad:bleh: )
id like one wid a tremelo ...100% gilmourish:P

Since you are a Gilmour fan, it's obvious you need a Strat, so you better save up till you can buy a Squier Strat (You won't regret saving up). If you can find a used guitar for your budget, nothing like it but make sure you test it properly for any fret wear, paint defects and all the jazz. Most importantly see if it feels good and sounds good to you :) that's the whole point right? :P

if you want to know what David Gilmour uses for his stuff, check this great site out :

Gilmourish : Premium Gilmourizing

Nobody like Gilmour eh :)

yeah givson ..
and also search for Samick guitars ... my friend bought one for ~7.5k a couple of years ago and its pretty good !!!
