Car & Bike Suggestions for a car - around 5 L

Hi,

Want suggestions for a car around 5 L max (+20k or so would be fine) on road.

Went to all brand show rooms, came back confused :huh:

Features that are important :

* Legroom/space in front (driver) - for tall people
* legroom/space in the back for 3 ppl (which all claim, but is different with different variants)
* petrol variant is fine. Not much running
* hatchback/sedan both are option.
* More boot space is always welcome (not in terms of "volume", which is just a useless number, but in terms of how many suitcases etc can be actually fit)

Current choices:

* WagonR -
* Ritz
* Santro
* i10
* Swift
* Getz

Bit bigger (more room) ?
* Aveo UVA
* Tata Indigo CS
* Logan ?? (carwale.com mentions OTR of 4.6 L)

I don't think Aveo would fit in that budget. If you are looking purely for comfort and spacious car, go for the renault logan. In the smaller segment, I have i10 and am quite happy with it.

The base model of Aveo UVA is < 5 L On Road.

Thanks for the recos. Space and comfort do take precedence, and this is mainly for city driving (that too in a congested city like kolkata).

In the hatchback segment, any thoughts on i10 v/s getz v/s swift ?

Ruling out Indica due to the "taxi" association ;) Also, a couple of people mentioned that indica/indigo start giving problems after a year of running. Not sure how true this is.

Renault Logan is specifically designed for you :p

and yes, the petrol version is priced very well.

3 adults can sit at the rear without feeling cramped. You cant beat that space(width) even if you go a segment higher. Good boot space too.

Thanks Vij, yes Logan is extremely comfortable - half the airport cab service vehicles are Logan - the other half is Indigo.

I think the choice is basically narrowing to the following:

* Swift - Pros - Maruti, decent space, A.S.S Cons - been around for a while (doesn't matter to me, but to some who are the ultimate decision maker ;) )

* Logan - Pros - Space, haven't heard negative feedback. Cons - Heard there was issue with mahindra-renault tieup (some thread on team-bhp). Not sure : A.S.S., running cost - any feedback ?

* Aveo - UVA : Pros - Great looks, space looks good (interior roomier than swift ?) Cons : Uncertainty around GM, A.S.S

* Indigo CS Petrol - Pros - Tata, entry level sedan ? as spacious as Logan/Aveo ?

Cons - Tata A.S.S, track record of the car - some people have had issues ?

Would be great if someone could help narrow this down further ;)

I think the choice is basically narrowing to the following:

* Swift - Pros - Maruti, decent space, A.S.S Cons - been around for a while (doesn't matter to me, but to some who are the ultimate decision maker ;) ) - Too many already, Low fuel efficiency, bad space management, good performance

* Logan - Pros - Space, haven't heard negative feedback. Cons - Heard there was issue with mahindra-renault tieup (some thread on team-bhp). Not sure : A.S.S., running cost - any feedback ? - Low fuel efficiency but gr8 performance and handling. gr8 space management and big car feel from inside

* Aveo - UVA : Pros - Great looks, space looks good (interior roomier than swift ?) Cons : Uncertainty around GM, A.S.S - A big No: Heavy, bad driver vision, low fuel eff, expensive spares, GM doubtful

* Indigo CS Petrol - Pros - Tata, entry level sedan ? as spacious as Logan/Aveo ?

Cons - Tata A.S.S, track record of the car - some people have had issues ? - Average engine, bad weight distribution

Would be great if someone could help narrow this down further ;)

Comments embedded.

Please test drive Logan petrol and Suzuki Swift and you will get your decision done.

(Will resolve your requirement of "hatch or non-hatch?", as well as respond to the indecision between you and your parents)

(My vote: Renault Logan for performance, drive and space)

^^ Thanks sato1986

Your comments mention all cars to have low fuel efficiency. Which other cars in this range, then has a better ratio ? Just curious.

Test drive is not going to be of much use, as this is pretty much a first car, and I don't have the skills/exp to differentiate or evaluate properly. Hence this is more on recommendations.

Logan is selling approx 300 -400 cars per month and there's big chance that it will be scrapped in no time.most of the deficiencies of swift have been rectified in ritz.test drive with five people on board and if they fit in,guess you 'll have a winner.

love ur sig man!!!

oh yea i forgot about RitZ!

@ abhinav, here is your answer: Ritz has a Good fuel efficiency as compared to swift or logan or other cars mentioned.

So, test drive Logan and RitZ :hap2:

Thanks a lot to all for the suggestions.

Going with a few TDs as mentioned in the thread (Ritz, logan, i10), along with some background checks on the future of logan etc. Will post here once the decision is done in the next couple of days !

why dont you give a shot to Indica Vista ?
i know old indica and CS had a problems but i am impressed by Vista. not just by look but now they are improving in service area as well.
and no match to vista when it comes to space... :)
i am not sure about fuel effeicency for petrol coz i am planning for diesel one :D

i would love if Tata comes with Indigo CS with vista engine (MJD1.3).
Manza is wayyy to costly

I've owned a tata,maruti,hyundai and a honda.i can confidently say tata has worst after sales service amongst these and i'm not going to buy a tata car again in my life.

I have been following the Manza since pre-launch. If you are okay with TATA cars, then currently Manza is the best option in the market in terms if value for money. Like you mentioned you can go for a car with more space, i think you should test drive the manza once. Logan is not a bad option. But Manza offers many more features in the same price. And just in case you wanna onsider it, their website has a good coverage of the car.. all the best for your choice !! :)

Indigo Manza

RITZ was declared the BEST SMALL car in INDIA when pitted against 14 of the best small cars in the market today by stress testing them on the road to LADHAK.

They found it to be the best as per :

1. Power [ Constant UPHILL on slippery road ]
2. Efficiency [ They were on 2-3 gear most of the time ]
3. Comfort + Space Distribution [ Head room + Boot space ]

RITZ is a winner ! Just test drive it to see if it suits YOU !

@autoslave

manza will probably have a high wait time. It was not even on display till 2-3 days back in kolkata :(

You are right. But if waiting for about a week or two is nt a problem, then it could prove to be worth it is what i feel. Yeah the problem might arise if one waits for a week or two and then books it. By then, most of the people would have booked it and the queue will keep elongating further !
I havent test driven it as yet. Else I would have give inputs on the hands on feel of the car..
