PC Peripherals Suggestions For A HTPC

As techie_007 and others mentioned, keep your basic config to what you would actually need. Your Home theatre experience would be unaffected even if you buy a higher end processor and GPU.

Suggest you to spend the amount saved on the sound department. And on the cabinet..like Antec Fusion or any other good cabinet thats silent, has a display and neatly gels with your LCD and other electronic equipment.

Also you would need an MCE remote control.

VGA card – Ati HD 3650 (512 MB version)

ANTEC NSK 2480 Cabinet
This is what I am getting for my HTPC

knowing you kiddo, I swear you are better off with Vista/XP

No offense, but if you needed handholding for removing a typo at the end of a URL earlier in this thread, I can imagine the kind of hard times you will face trying to do non run-of-the-mill stuff on Linux

Exactly what I had on my mind... hang on to Xp/Vista... why venture into unknown territories of linux. However greatest fun lies there (excluding games).

Dude. Is this some kind of riddle? :/

Just put in the components people have suggested so far. And go and buy 'em.

dude....in case u didnt get it till now, an E2140 paired with something like a 8600GT is SUFFICIENT for 1080p HD playback :p

a Q6600 for an HTPC  the sound of the proccy will drown out any movie watching experience ;)

u really live upto ur name, dont ya? just use google once and then get back to us :)

no offense intended, u just need to learn a bit more about requirements for HD playback......

for HTPC support , dont buy the higher end cards- they're more gamer oriented

the 8500/8600 have better video decoders than the 8800 :p

And you can get them with passive coolers as well :D
are u sure that 8600 has a better video decoder then a 8800gt.

Listen;

1. For the Graphics Card; Either a 8600GT or a HD 3850/3650? How much would they cost?
2. Motherboard; What about a Gigabyte 780G?
3. Video Card; Do I need a video card?
4. If an Ati card is superior to the nVidia card but does not support linux... then I can go for Windows Vista always!
5. Remote; Which remote control shall I get?
