Looking for a laptop for my girl which could meet the following specifications:-

1. 13/15 inch screen

2. Decent ASS

3. Pre-loaded Windows

4. Decent RAM/Proccy (should not be sluggish)

5. Sub 30k pricepoint

and the laptop is going to be used for some doc editing/surfing/watching movies etc, thats why im not considering a Netbook cause of the small screen size.

Please pop me some suggestions so that i can go have a look at Croma and pick it up :)

TIA

Sanil

You can consider the Acer Aspire 5536 too which has just been launched.

It has a AMD Athlon X2 QL-64 processor, 2GB RAM and 320GB HDD. The Linux version costs only 28.5k.

There is a bit of confusion about the graphics sub-system of this laptop.

According to this post(Techtree.com India > News > Consumer Electronics > New AMD-based Acer Aspire Notebook Now Available), the 28.5K version has the ATI mobility Radeon 4570 but according to a forum member, the version with the ATI 4570 costs 40k+.

Can you please check this laptop out and tell us what graphics the 28.5k version has???

How's Acer's ASS(After sale support) anyone?

what are you using the laptop for ? if powerpoint presentations and MS office is your use then go for Acer by all means . But it is a shitty brand. To compensate for the "low prices" which they give, they offer crap hardware - keboard, start button and motherboard conk off after a year. And after sales service is shitty across India except for Delhi. They have just one service center in Delhi but it is decent and responsive.

i had dell vostro A840 got for 25k something

didnt like it so sold it after 10 days for the same price!!

acer can be considered but i have seen acer notebooks . keyboard is not good in terms of build quality and the mouse pad is pathetic , so stiff buttonns

and very poor a$$

increase ur budget a bit and get a decent , sturdy and long lasting dell inspiron 15 for around 32-35k something depending on ur customisation!!

and u will not regret it !

What both of you guys have seen or used are old Acer laptops(i.e they have been launched long ago).

The keyboard on the new launch's like the Aspire 4736z, 5738z, 5536 and Timeline series seem to have a pretty god keyboard, The keyboard is similar to what you can find on the Macbooks or Acer EEE 1000HE, Samsung NC10. These chicklet keys seem to be good and most reviews that I have read seem to suggest that they are great.
Atleast they are much better to use than the normal keyboard of laptops from Dell, Lenovo etc.

And since these lappy's are new, nobody knows what will happen after 1 year. But if you type a lot then I suggest you go for the Acer lappy.

you have surely not used any of the acer models posted in ur post..those chiclet keys are completely different from chiclet keys in macbooks and 1000he.. NC10 does not have chiclet keys..

Do you even know the meaning of chiclet keys?
