I'd recommend staying away from most Marutis and Hyundai (i10/Santro) for the simple reason that they don't depreciate as well as other makes
If you are looking for value, rule of thumb would be to buy a car thatr doesn't depreciate fast when buying new and vice versa when buying used
Just make sure you don't pick up a car that is known for high maintenance (e.g. a Skoda)
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that a 4 year old Accent at 2.5L or a Palio at 2L presents far more value than say a 4 year old Wagon R at the same price point
The maintenance for the former would only be a bit higher than the latter
Just one more thing, try going with a friend/acquaintance who knows enough about cars to cull out the lemons when scouting
