Hi
I am planning to upgrade my old Pentium 3 pc. I need a very basic and low power but reliable rig just for downloading.I already have another quadcore for gaming and other work purposes. I need suggestions just for the following :
1. processor
2. mobo (preferably with onboard graphics)
3. ram

My budget is strictly around 5.5k or less.

I already have P4 cabby,hard disk,cd writer,P4 SMPS, mouse+keyboard, monitor.

Will it be fine to change to AMD processor or stick with Intel and will the Pentium4 SMPS work with AMD too??

Thanx...

Try a celeron 4xx + 945 or AMD sempron LE + cheapest AMD chipset combo :)

Should be possible in that budget :)

Also, no problems with the SMPS, they are all based on the same std. You might want to get a decent one though, just for keeping your rig safe :p

Have u forgotten about D945GCLF mobo?:eek:hyeah:

It would be lot cheaper&he could save some cash...

Get the atom+mobo combo for 3.3k....

intel reg.

ntel Celeron 430------------------------1800

(512K L2 cache 1.8 GHz 800MHz FSB)

Asus P5N MX----------------------------2350

1 GB RAM--------------------------------800

total------------------------------------4950

no idea which one is powerful AMD r Intel?

AMD X2 4600+

Asus M2A-MX...combo for 4750 at lamington

Transcend 1 GB DDR2 667\800 for 775/900...total 5.5-5.7K...Its got X1200 onboard good better than all mentioned above....also the combo will outrun all configs within tht budget!!!!!!!!!!

get sempron LE + nforce chipset board + 512mb ram = will cost 4k max . it consumes less than 50 watts idle and runs super cool and silent even in fanless cabby . i have the same in my download rig and it consumes even less power than monitor . u can use all of the rest p4 parts with it :bleh:
