Suggestions for good anime/manga

There are so many mixed opinions about this show, I really don't know if i should pick this up. Main complaints being it goes from drama to comedy instantly in some scenes.
How would you rate it on a scale of 1-10, is it typical shonen stuff ?

Lots of pretty good suggestions in this thread. Having a hard time reading all those :)
Any good anime/manga with dark settings like evangelion or shingeki no kyojin? I've been out of the anime/manga loop for a few years now :(
 
^ Defence Devil. I don't know if it's as dark as you want. You can read one chapter of it to find out if it's your type of manga.
 
Defense Devil looks good :) Dorohedero looks very interesting to me. I think Ill read it a bit more.
I really miss Attack on Titan anime. I hope they make season 2 soon. Guess it's back to manga reading for me.
Maybe a dark suspense anime like future diary is the one for me. :)
