Am a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki considered to be the Spielberg of Anime.
His other notable ones are Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa.
Try his Lupin series as well.

Check out genius party- its a collection of short movies- Mostly sci-fi and fantasy. Also Hoshi no koe aka voices of the distant star-25 minute movie yes but many say it is a worthy watch.
