Hi,

Got my very first B-School Interview on Saturday @Mumbai. So nervous.

Anyways, I haven't been to any interview so I am not aware of the particular attire, also not familiar with formals.

So need some quick suggestions over which 'Tie' to choose. (Colours, Stripes, Dotted, Solids etc). Also I am planning to get only Clip On's this time. Not used to tying knots and also these are hassle free.

I am aware of the fact that it has to match with my Shirt and Trousers. I am planning to wear a White shirt with Thin Blue strips and Blackish Blue trousers. (Don't have any decent formals of my own so borrowing from my brother :ashamed: ). Also read something about you complexion while deciding the tie. I was surprised anyways, I am fair in complexion.

Also rough idea of Price Range will be good. Sigh..Pune Central / Pyramids are way too far from my place.

So Would appreciate any suggestions related to it. I am going to shop for the Tie in the evening or latest by tomorrow.

Regards,

P.S :- I understand this is tech forum, but cmon we have had worse topics than this one. (Underwears :S )

Maybe will help you :P

* Suit: A conservative, two-piece dark grey or a dark blue business suit would be the ideal suit to wear on the day of your job interview.

* Shirt: A white, long-sleeved dress shirt that is neatly pressed and has a good fit is recommendable.

* Tie: Go for a plain colored, non-distracting, conservative dark blue or dark red necktie made of 100% pure silk.

* Tie accessories: A classic silver tie bar ensures that your tie is held in place during the interview. Without one, you often end up adjusting your tie several times during the interview, which will make you look nervous.

* Shoes: Clean and polished conservative dress shoes, black lace-ups if possible, would be your best choice.

* Socks: Dark socks, black if possible, would be ideally suited.

* Belt: The belt should match the color of your shoes, so go with a black one if possible

* Hair: Make sure that you get a well-groomed hairstyle before the interview. Be aware that short always fares best in interviews.

* Beard: A beard needs to be shaved off.

* Mustache: Mustaches are a possible negative, but if you must, then at least make sure it is neat and trimmed.

* Fingernails: Ensure that they are clean and trimmed.

* Rings: Wedding or college rings are generally acceptable but other rings are not.

* Earrings & piercings: Both earrings and visible body piercings should be taken out on the day of the interview.

* Body odor & fresh breath: Make sure that you do not smell badly and chew some gum before the interview, yet never during the interview.

* Perfume & cologne: Keep perfume and cologne to a minimum.

* Briefcase: Take along a briefcase with a notepad and a pen for any notes you may have to take during or after the interview.

Damn Briefcase and all. :S

I toh don't have any Briefcase. Anyways this is just a Bschool Interview not the high profile Job interview.:P

There will be many lukkhas like me, Only difference will be they will have 1-2yrs of exp and I am a fresher.

Coming back to Tie's. I do have a stupid navy blue Tie (Solid), which i used in college. ( To match with Sky Blue Shirt and Navy Blue Trousers)

Will it go with my current attire this time ?

there's no need for a tie...last year i attended atleast 10 interviews all for MBA collages and never had a tie on....and i got call letter from 7 of them :)

I dont think a tie is necessary. Has the college has said anything abt the dress code? Try to get one thats sober and not shiny/gaudy. Also get the proper one, not the clip-on. If the interviewers notice it, its definitely a downer. You can always ask the pretty girl waiting for the interview to knot the tie for you :P

Dude,

How about taking your brother along, He would have seen the shirt, Its his trouser you are wearing, his opinion should count. :ohyeah:

I dont think, "Solid, Navy Blue, Thin Blue stipes" will take you considerably further on this forum.

Sigh.. Well may be i will give Tie a skip this time. :|

Besides I need a call from this Bschool just for a backup, But still its vital.

Got series of interviews in March.. Will decide of getting one then.

carry a tie and look around if others are wearing then u can wear the same , else give it a pass.......i second the opinion of not wearing a tie ....on the other hand not bad if u could wear it too.....either way its fine.

Yeah .. Will carry it with me...;)

Also found a tie in my brothers stash.. This one is Navy Blue with Dark Red Stripes..

Le jayenge aur kya :bleh:

Yeah dont worry about the tie for now. As long as you are neatly dressed (make sure clothes are not wrinkled) and well presented you should be ok

I don't think a tie is really important. And if it is, then its probably not the best b-school around anyway. A bath in the morning is definitely recommended though ;)

1. Which college?

2. I would actually recommend the tie. makes you look more professional for the interview :) Any basic dark blue/striped tie etc should be ok so long as the colors arent too bright :)

In case no one else is wearing one, you can always remove it :P

3. Get a proper tie with knot and all and get someone to tie it for you if its that difficult.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I'd too recommend wearing a tie and being extremely 'fresh' (can't find a more appropriate term) when you meet them. Have an extremely mild perfume (mostly to camouflage BO !) and no messy facial or regular hair! You should be looking 'neat' more than anything else.

Its SIBM - B...

Got a video, will arrange the knot at home itself before packing :bleh:

My accomodation is at J.J Hospital's.. Any idea how to reach there ?

My friend told me, its near Sandhurst Road ?

Besides I have to reach Dadar West (Some Catering College) in the morning.. So i hope its nearby..

no idea about the tie :P

but yeah J.J Hospital is like walking distance from Sandhurst station ..max 5-7 mins.

how come you got accomodation in J.J.Hospital ?

accomodation in a quarter \hostel ?

my cousin lives in one of the hostels there..doing his M.B.B.S.

Yeah my friend is living in hostel there, also doing his M.B.B.S ;)

So i should alight @CST and then come back at Sandhurst or from Dadar to Sandhurst ?

Seems like I'll google for Central Line Maps :bleh:

Depends on the time of your travel. If you care coming in the first half of the day, it'd be better if you alight at CST and then come back to Dadar/Sandhurst Rd. If you are coming in the evenings, it's better to get down at Dadar and then go to Sandhurst Rd.

Otherwise Mumbai train's crowd may scare you crazy !!
